The Muslim Rights Concern has warned some of the country’s retired military Generals who are part of the National Christian Elders Forum not to think they can intimidate Muslims. The position of MURIC was contained in a statement signed by its Director, Prof. Ishaq Akintola, on Monday, which was premised on the alarm raised by NCEF that the country was being Islamised. MURIC said using retired General to issue a statement on the platform of the NCEF was an attempt to intimidate the country’s Muslim population. It also said the umbrella body of Christians in the country, the Christian Association of Nigeria, was in the habit of using such platforms to issue statements when it has committed a blunder. The statement by MURIC reads in full: Some retired military generals and Christian elders under the aegis of the National Christian Elders Forum (NCEF) declared on Thursday in Abuja that Nigeria was being Islamised. The retired generals included Theophilus Danjuma, Joshua Dogonyaro and Zamani Lekwot while Elder Solomon Asemota, Elder Moses Ihonde, Elder Shyngle Wigwe and Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife were among the elders. The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) totally rejects this allegation. It is false, baseless, deceptive, malicious and provocative. Using Christian and Islamic studies (CRK and IRK) which are in the current school curriculum as a launching pad for its tirades on Muslims in the country stands logic on its head because both Christian and Muslim leaders asked the Federal Government under ex-President Jonathan to make the two subjects compulsory for students who belong to their respective faiths. However, we are not surprised at this latest development because Christian leaders are simply behaving to type. They have always been shouting wolves where there is none. Warnings against the ‘Islamisation’ of Nigeria is now an old song and nobody is interested any longer. The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and its attack megaphones like NCEF are adept at subterfuge and their false alarms usually come after they might have committed an evil act. It is diversionary tactics. Come to think of it. Why is the new false alarm coming just after the bloody massacre of an entire Fulani Muslim population in Taraba State? NCEF feels frustrated that its plot to Christianise Muslim children by using the old deceptive curriculum failed when government introduced a policy which grants religious freedom to all. What is wrong if government makes Christian Religious Knowledge compulsory for Christian students while Islamic Religious Knowledge is also made compulsory for Muslim students? How on earth does that translate to Islamising Nigeria? NCEF is shouting blue murder because CAN’s plot of catching Muslim children as ‘fishes’ through a deceptive curriculum has been floored. It is a cardinal dogma of CAN that any child who lacks Christian moral training must end up as a social outcast and a burden on society. They therefore seek to compel Muslim children to take CRK and deny them the chance to study IRK. There is no gainsaying the fact that researchers have long agreed that the colonial master and later its ‘beloved son’ (CAN) used Western education as a tool of forceful conversion of Muslim children. We must also call the attention of the Federal and State ministries of education to another grand plot of CAN which has been in operation for long. Teachers of IRK are being cleverly diverted to teach other subjects. Senior officials in the Ministry of Education who are Christians are made to compromise their positions. They conspire with CAN to neutralize teachers trained for IRK. These teachers are not allowed to teach IRK when employed. They are threatened with dismissal and offered alternative subjects to secure their source of daily bread. Thus CAN creates scarcity of IRK teachers by diverting experts in the field to other subjects. On the other hand, Christian graduates of any subject under the sky are given juicy offers to drop their core areas to teach CRK. This is how our cunny neighbours who are now alleging Islamisation create scarcity by diversion for IRK but ensure proliferation by the same diversion for CRK parri passu. Our claims are verifiable and we charge the Federal Ministry of Education in particular and the state ministries of education in the South West to launch an investigation into this. Many graduates of Islamic Studies who have been forcefully diverted to teach other subjects are ready to come forward. Those clamouring for restructuring have something interesting here. CAN has created a rot in the ministries of education all over the country and restructuring must start from there. Besides, what is this idea of using former military generals to intimidate the country in an issue involving religion? When last did Muslims use their own generals to make noise? Must we flex military muscle over a civil matter? Why the emphasis on a statement “issued by retired military generals and Christian leaders”? Are the generals there to represent the Nigerian Army? To make what point? Who did this to CAN? The reference to war by the group is an admission that they are already making secret plans to wage war on Muslims. It must also be noted that the names of the army generals involved have been linked with one crisis or another in the past and this is the danger. Otherwise why the assemblage of Christian war veterans in the form of army generals and why the need for the emphasis on the military elements in the group? Why do Christian leaders always mobilize their army generals? This attitude is suggestive of subtle intimidation and coercion. Is there any connection between this surreptitious union and the South African money-for-arms scandal which involved an aircraft belonging to Ayo Oritsejafor, former CAN president? Also, can any sane mind rationalize the involvement of Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife in this group? How does he fit in for crying out loud? So how Northern is the Northern Christian Elders Forum? We declare clearly, categorically and unequivocally that Nigerian Muslims are not in any way moved by this subtle threat. Who is afraid of the Northern Christian Elders Forum? Count Nigerian Muslims out. We get the message but we dismiss it as the usual ranting of incorrigibly belligerent neighbours. Our avowed role in this country as tutored by our leaders is to work for peace, to pray for progress and to search for the stability of the Nigerian nation. Instead of utilizing precious times on hard work that will put bread on the tables of Nigerians, CAN leadership has misled Nigerian Christians into superfluous religiousity, leading to a situation where a large proportion of the Nigerian population spends 17 hours daily searching for an ever elusive and perpetually fictitious miracle. Every Christian civil servant or businessman in Nigeria today is being indoctrinated and made to believe that not only must he become a pastor, he must also own a church, a situation which has led to unbearable noise pollution as churches spring up in the most unlikely places: tiny 2 x 2 shops with huge signboards and gargantuan loud speakers. Yet morality continues to sink to a very low ebb. MURIC charges the Nigerian military to caution its retired Christian generals. They must desist from brandishing their expired medals in our faces. Something has gone terribly wrong with their pre-retirement briefings. We appeal to CAN to allow Nigerians to work together as compatriots and without religious bias. Only thus can we forge a truly genuine nation where rewards for citizens are based on potentials and performance rather than affiliation to a church, a mosque or a tribe. Allow merit to be the deciding factor.
The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has enjoined the adherents of the two major religions in Nigeria to imbibe the spirit of harmony and tolerance in order to strengthen the bond of unity across the country.
The Minister made the call in his hometown of Oro, Kwara State, on Saturday at the 10th Lai Mohammed Ramadan Lecture Series.
"God has a purpose for making us (Nigeria) one and we shall remain united, despite our differences
"We have been living together peacefully and we will continue to live together peacefully. We have a lot to gain by being united," he said.
Alhaji Mohammed advised Nigerians to borrow a leaf from the people of Oro whom, despite their religious differences, have been co-existing peacefully, saying he has even held four editions of the annual lecture on the grounds of a Catholic school in the town.
The Minister warned those who are fanning the embers of discord through divisive and hate speeches, noting that war is an ill-wind that blows nobody any good.
"Like people say, wars are not really started by bullets, they are started by words of mouth. If there is war today, none of us will escape whether you are young or old, whether you are Yoruba, Igbo or Hausa," he said.
Alhaji Mohammed cited an example of Rwanda, where hate speech fuelled the genocide that led to the loss of over 800,000 lives, with an unimaginable scale of destruction of property, in 1994.
In his remarks, the Governor of Osun State, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, urged the Muslim faithful to be pious and prayerful during the Ramadan fast.
The Guest Lecturer, Alhaji Ibrahim Gidado, underpinned his message on faithfulness and devotion in the month of Ramadan.
"How do you become faithful? It's by doing things in the way of Allah and not just doing things for show-off but for Allah to see and reward you," he said.
He advised the wealthy in the society to make it mandatory upon themselves to always assist the poor and the needy in order to cushion the effect of the recession in their social and economic lives.
The highpoint of the occasion were prayer sessions for President Muhammadu Buhari, Acting President Yemi Osinbajo and the peaceful co-existence of Nigerians.
Dignitaries from all walks of life, including traditional rulers, religious leaders, top government functionaries, women groups and students attended the 2017 Ramadan Lecture.

President Buhari came to power with the genuine intention to turn the country around positively but his failing health has been his greatest disappointment. In the beginning, I said it that Buhari’s health would be fluctuating. The Spirit of God says Buhari loyalists will gang up to hijack government at the center. To be frank, Buhari cannot contest in 2019 because his 2nd term is dicey. God has revealed to me that there are two people holding Buhari’s government and if these two people are removed, Buhari’s government will collapse. These two are the ones God has made the pillar of Buhari’s government, it does not matter whether he performs in office or not.

Governors or his family members should stop playing politics with his health if they truly love him and want him to live. I foresee that Buhari may not handover. Customer service, it is said, is not a department, it is an attitude. And the can-do attitude always makes positive differences. Almost on the daily basis, the achievements of servant of God who is the president of Omega Fire Ministries worldwide, Apostle Johnson Suleman, are shaped by the strength of the foundations being set by him. Apostle Suleman’s efforts at changing lives through charity and redeeming souls have kept his ministry on steady progress.
On Saturday, 27th of May, 2017, a new feather was added to his honourary caps. The National Association of Christian Journalists (NACJ) recognized Suleman’s strength of achievements which is deep-rooted in lust for helping the poor, and presented him with the ‘Integrity Man of The Year’ award. It was the highest honour the writers’ body would be giving to any celebrity in recent time. The event which held at the Sheraton Lagos Hotel, Ikeja, comes up annually to celebrate outstanding personalities of different classes in the society.
Within three months, the ‘Oracle of God’ has bagged four awards of honour for his commitment and the integrity of his character. In February, 2017, a group of Nigerian Bishops and youth association, National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), the umbrella body of youths across Nigeria, Edo State chapter, honoured Apostle Suleman. The Bishops awarded Suleman for demonstrating excellence in prophetic Gospel, social welfare and general caring, while the youth group honoured the man of God as the Patron of NYCN, Edo chapter, for his qualities as friend of the youths, ambassador for peace and development of the state and role model to young people across the country.

Meanwhile, Apostle Suleman just completed a two-day Apostolic tour of North London, UK. The two-day crusade was held between Monday, 29th and Tuesday, 30thof May, 2017 at the RUACH City Church and it was attended by thousands of believers.
The London conference, aside the fact that it was characterized by signs, wonders and healing miracles, it also imparted on how everyday believers could operate in the supernatural.
In the over two decades of Apostle Suleman ministering around the world, millions of believers have confessed to have experienced divine healings and restorations
Famous prophet and founder/spiritual head of the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Lagos, Primate Elijah Babatunde Ayodele, in this interview, shares his new visions about Nigeria and the world, his fulfilled prophecies and, essentially on the challenges facing men of God and the Church in Nigeria. Excerpt…
You released some prophecies a while ago about the state of the nation. Would you say that these warnings are justified with the way things are now?
No one is happy that things are not the way they are supposed to be. But we had a mission from God to deliver to people and that is just what we have done and still doing. God showed us and we told Nigerians ahead about fire outbreaks at the airport and markets, the fall of Naira to American Dollar, the high cost of foodstuffs, the unstable economy, the return of terrorists especially Boko Haram, the unstable electricity, the senate and presidency crisis, and some others; these are coming to pass one after the other. About two years ago, we warned Nigerians about the health of President Buhari and that he would go for surgery abroad.
Talking of President Buhari’s health, what do you foresee now in this regard concerning his government?
Buhari still needs prayer for his health, Nigeria too needs prayer a lot. What God is still telling us is that President Buhari does not have the grip of his government. Those who surround him are in charge and I foresee that they will betray him, though he means well for Nigeria. We warned the government in the past that it was not easy fighting corruption and that corruption would fight back, it is happening now and Nigerians have still not seen anything because corruption is going to fight back very seriously than we are seeing now. And they will use corruption against some politicians as revenge and try to cow some of them towards the coming general elections.
What have you seen exactly?
What I have seen is that corruption is going to fight back in bigger ways because Buhari’s government has been defeated by corruption, though partially. God says that Buhari is fighting corruption the wrong way. The results Buhari’s government is expecting from the corruption fight it will not get because the government has missed it from the beginning. Except the procedure is changed the Buhari government can’t win the corruption fight because the government of Buhari is already corrupt. And the people who are with him are controlling corruption.
The EFCC chairman, Ibrahim Magu, has been doing a lot lately, do you foresee him being confirmed as substantive head?
I have not seen Magu confirmed as the legal chairman of EFCC. But God told me that he will continue in his present acting capacity and he will continue to perform. And something is going to happen in the EFCC soon. Nigerians should watch. It is few people that want Magu to be chairman and Magu must be careful so that he will not be used and dumped. Despite his performance, he will not be rewarded as expected.
Please, share what you have seen lately about Nigeria and the world.
God is saying that Nigerian government under Buhari must not toy with the Biafra agitation otherwise it will explode in our face. I see the Biafran youths getting more dangerous with their struggle, so this is beyond the issue of playing the Igbo with the 2019 presidency.Igbo will not be president in 2019 and even 2023 in Nigeria. I’m seeing a referendum in nearest future. I see the international community fighting the Buhari government, despite their pretense that they love him. Already, I see them ganging up against Buhari but he is not aware of it. Nigerians will start seen it from 2018. I see democracy breaking up Nigeria in 2043. Nigerians should take this serious. I see constitutional amendments coming up. The government’s Treasury Single Account policy will be aborted. I see government succeeding in giving local governments autonomy but I see crisis, as this will be the beginning of Nigeria’s separation. The power tussle that this move will create will start a crisis. Nigeria must not try state police because I see a lawmaker presenting the Bill, otherwise the country is finished. I see Nigeria’s foundation shaking. The crisis in the senate will take a new turn before 2019, what we are seeing now is the part one of it. Part two is coming before 2019. I see a mega party. PDP and APC are going to break. Those who are now moving to APC are going there to destroy it. I see some APC governors wanting to pull out to another political party and also in PDP I see some governors wanting to pull out. I see Ali Modu-Sheriff winning the Supreme Court case if PDP is not careful enough. I see a lot of people coming out to contest the 2019 presidency in Nigeria. But Buhari’s second term is dicey. We said it in the past. President Buhari must not stretch his health or else he may slump. He needs to take care of his health and his family need to pray for him very well. Buhari should be wary of people who surround him; they are pushing him against the command of his health. I see the Aso Rock cabal stretching him beyond his capacity. And this could be dangerous. Let Buhari takes some rest and allow Osinbajo to handle the country’s affairs. Senators and governors are going to gang up against Buhari. By 2018, Buhari will realize that he doesn’t have genuine people around him. They will push him to take wrong steps. In ‘Warnings To The Nations’ on page 120, we said there will air strike in Syria, which happened recently. And on page 130, we said that a new management will be inaugurated in CAF.
Do you see the judiciary helping out since others will gang up against the president?
That is why I said that Buhari has missed it. If you want to fight corruption, you should not make the judiciary your number one enemy. Buhari started the fight with the judiciary. He has taken a wrong step. The welfare of the judiciary should be paramount. It is the judiciary that will help Buhari to fight corruption but he started the war with the judiciary which is good but he should have reorganized the judiciary’s welfare package well. That is the Word of God. Buhari’s government must find an alternative to the rising Dollar otherwise Nigerian economy will keep fluctuating. I see the Dollar defeating the Naira eventually unless we find an alternative to the Dollar. I see reform in the NNPC and the CBN. I see petroleum scarcity, kerosene scarcity and diesel scarcity from September this year. NUPENG will go on strike. I see politicians protecting Tompolo against arrest by the federal government. I see James Ibori making a difference in the Niger Delta in the nearest future. I see renewed bombings in the Niger Delta. Let’s pray against fire outbreak in any of our airports and seaports. I foresee new seaports in the country and refineries. Our refineries will break down. Let us also pray against fire outbreak in any of our refineries. Nigerian government will find a new deal on electricity which will not serve us properly except the government takes the right steps. Buhari will change service chiefs. I see jail break. I see Boko Haram launching a major attack and I see Abuja as target. So, government must be very vigilant. Not all state houses of assembly will finish their term. Edo State assembly speaker will face trouble. Edo State governor will face political gang-ups. I see Edo State governor and his deputy fighting. APC governors’ forum in the North will break. APC governors’ forum in the Southwest will have crisis. I see famine, recession is not over yet. Nigeria is not ripe for agricultural export. Let Buhari make use of his VP; let him tap into his brainpower. Let’s pray against bloodbath and unrest in Nigeria. I see MTN, GLO, Airtel running into big crises. They may face litigations and pay huge amount of money. Dangote should pray for his companies against fire. Dangote should pray for his life. I see Dangote going into telecoms business. Nigerian government’s website will be hacked. America and Russia’s matter will cause unrest in the world but there will be no third world war, yet there will be no peace in the world.
I see more documents implicating the Trump government over the election that brought him into office. They will expose more things about Trump’s government. I see American protesting against Trump’s government and it will affect the Blacks. I see America breaking up and I see Britain going back to EU. Buying weapons from America will cause Nigeria a lot. I see political crisis in Cameroun because the country wants to break up. Cameroonian president, Paul Biya, will not be allowed to have another term in office. Ghanaian president must not start fighting corruption; else it will crash his government. I see Ghana running into recession. I see Ghanaian president escaping assassination. I see a governor in Nigeria escaping assassination and accident. There will be an attempt on American president, Trump’s life. Americans will kick against more of Trump’s policies. There will be more divisions in American Congress. I see terrorist attack in America, also Britain, Germany, China and France. I see train mishap in Spain and Nigeria. India will break up in 40 years. Let’s pray against earthquake in Nigeria. Let’s pray against a major plane crash that will shake the world. I see mutiny in the Nigerian Army. I see deaths in the Nigeria Police. I see a new police commissioner in Lagos State, I see a new CP in Oyo State and new CP in Edo State and new CP in Rivers State. I see death of a high ranking police officer. I see crisis in banks, Fidelity Bank, Diamond Bank and Ecobank. I see a new management taking over Keystone Bank.
You hosted the less privileged during the Easter celebration, tell us about it.
It is an everyday thing. We don’t wait for the celebration time to care for the poor. This Easter, we empowered widows, children and the aged. And we visited prisons and hospitals. We gave clothes to the needy and we give building materials to the less privileged that are building houses and we give bursary to students. We are also in the process of building our mega church extension that will sit 8,000 worshippers. We have acquired the vast land close to our Oke Afa headquarters. The construction will commence in July. It is going to be a computerized worship centre that will also house our cable TV channel. We are collaborating with another TV channel for effective operations. It is the Lord’s doing. We are also building a church and mosque in Badagry that we call ‘mediation centre’. It is a place for the unity and harmony between Christians and Muslims. The world is full of crises, we are aware of this fact and we are doing our best to ensuring peace among religions. The Sultan of Sokoto has been making efforts to harmonize religions in Nigeria. We are bringing the Sultan of Sokoto and a credible Christian leader to dedicate both the mosque and the church respectively. The centre will be dedicated to the federal government.
What is the budget for the proposed mega church like?
Laughs… let’s not talk about budget. But we have given the job to certified engineers who are experts in church building and designing to handle.
Lately, there have been issues and scandals confronting men of God. For instance, a fellow pastor, Apostle Johnson Suleman, has been in the centre of an issue with a lady. Do you have anything to say about this?
Let me start from Apostle Suleman because he is a man that I know. Apostle Suleman, as I know him, is a very generous man, open and straightforward. And he is fearless. See, there are two things; when you are fearless and you are too good, the devil will ask God to give it a chance to tempt you. A good man is not a friend of the devil, so the devil will look for a way to deal with a good man because he is inconveniencing the devil. In Apostle Suleman’s case, devil is at work. But take it, God will never allow the devil to bring down His Kingdom. He can only allow it to tempt His anointed, like it happened in the time of our Lord, Christ Jesus. I’m sure God will vindicate Apostle Suleman. What I have found out is that Apostle Suleman’s case is partly political but largely spiritual; spiritual in the sense that, here is a man who loves to trouble the devil, binding and casting out evils. He is a popular man. How many pastors in Nigeria today are doing what he is doing around the world? He is a vocal voice. He troubles the demons a lot. He is an ambassador representing Nigeria across the world. Naturally, the devil would want to fight back. I see this case as the devil fighting back but it can never win this battle. It has never won. The plot is to mess up men of God but nobody can bring down an anointed man of God. Suleman is a true man of God. He stands tall. I would only advise Apostle Suleman to be more in spirit as this issue is meant to cause him distractions. He should stand above it and withdraw from court and leave the matter for God. This is time for forgiveness, he should forgive them. In all, we will all die and give account of our stewardship.
What do you think should be the role of CAN in this?
Forget CAN. CAN has lost focus since the days of Ayo Oritsejafor. I’m not a CAN member. CAN is messed up. The other day when the government said that churches should be rendering their accounts, what did CAN do? The new CAN leadership I’m still watching before I make further comments
The annual INTERDENOMINATIONAL night vigil organised by Our Daily Manna Prayer Ministry every January is usually power-packed because the vigil holds after the 21 days fasting of the ministry and its members. The 2017 edition tagged NIGHT OF EVIDENCE, was no different, if anything, it was stupendously powerful. The event held at the Tafawa Balewa Square Lagos, on 27thJanuary and as usual the gathering recorded a huge turnout of people consisting of hundreds of thousands. The arena was exciting, expectant and eventful as the hundreds of thousands of non-denominational members praised and worshipped God in humility, whilst raising their different prayer points to Heaven for a miracle.
The various testimonies of miraculous healings, childbirths, financial breakthroughs were given by members of the congregation, testifying of God’s miraculous goodness in their lives, the Manna Voices Choir, the Children Orchestra group, several praise and worship ministrations and the ‘War Against Haman’ prayer sessions, all heralded the welcome speech which was given by Pastor Flora Kwakpovwe, the wife of the Bishop. She prayed as well as welcomed the various Manna Mountains (INTERDENOMINATIONAL) across the world, before introducing her husband, Bishop Dr Chris Kwakpovwe to the altar.
When Bishop Dr Chris Kwakpovwe started speaking, he notified the crowd of the strict security screenings because of the plans of some people to cause stampede in the event. He enjoined the crowd that they should look up to Jesus and see Him all the way instead of him a mere mortal in preparations for their breakthroughs and deliverances that night. The Bishop also prayed for Nigeria and the three tiers of government. He prayed especially for the Vice President of Nigeria Prof Yemi Osinabjo. He also announced that the Governor of Lagos State, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode and his wife sent individual representatives to the event. He called on Mrs Folashade Adekoya, the Head of Service who was there on behalf of Gov. Ambode to read Ambode's goodwill message, and she was followed by Mrs Joke Adeyemi who represented Mrs Ambode's message.
Then came the preaching of the WORD by Bishop Dr Chris Kwakpowve, followed by strong Prophetic Declarations as well as onstage deliverances of people from various levels of afflictions and challenges. It was a night of instant healings, wonders and salvations. At the end of the event, the lives of the congregation who came from over 100 countries were transformed and there was EVIDENCE that they have been in God’s presence and experienced Him in His fullness.
It would be recalled that Bishop Dr Chris Kwakpovwe was also honoured recently with an Award (DELTA ICON) in Delta State for his contribution to Christiandom and the marvellous INSPIRATION his daily devotional book OUR DAILY MANNA is doing in the lives of people all over the world.

The founder of Omega Fire Ministries, Johnson Suleman, recently instructed members of his church to kill Fulanis. An attempt by operatives of the Department of State Security (DSS) to arrest him in Ado Ekiti yesterday was foiled by Governor Ayodele Fayose.
The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) in a statement released today by its Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola strongly condemns Pastor Johnson Suleman’s vituperations. It is provocative, irresponsible and unpatriotic. In the same vein, we are nonplussed by Governor Fayose’s penchant for preventing security agents from performing their lawful duties. By shielding such a high profile suspect, Fayose has manifested blatant disregard for the rule of law, encouraged lawlessness and exhibited executive brigandage.
Pastor Johnson Suleman wants to make the country unsafe for Muslims and law abiding Fulanis. It is not in our character to issue threats. We are mature enough to control our emotions. Yet it is not out of cowardice that we prefer to tow the path of peaceful coexistence. Muslims have never been known to fear death or to compromise their faith. But we do not want to join issues with belligerent people who are always bullying Muslims and Fulanis by telling lies and issuing threats. Neither do we want to heat up the polity.
What will ordinary Muslims do when we exchange banters with firebrand Christian extremists like Johnson? Why should religious leaders speak as if they have stocked heaps of weapons in hiding? Why should spiritual guides incite their followers to kill and maim? What do religious leaders gain from goading their followers to shed blood?
The victims are usually the poor masses who are hypnotized by the rhetoric and mesmerized by the oratorical skills of their fanatical leaders. This is why leaders must weigh every word they utter. Leaders are models. They must live by example and teach their followers to learn how to love, to tolerate, to forgive and to peacefully coexist.
MURIC charges Nigerians to objectively and critically examine the Fulani herdsmen phenomenon. They should not allow some misguided spiritual leaders who have hidden agenda to becloud their sense of assessment. Fulanis have been coming to Nigeria before the 1914 amalgamation. Their nomadic and pastoral flow has never waned since the first Fulanis came from Futa Toro in Senegal in the 11th century. We should therefore not be surprised that the criminal elements among the herdsmen are not even Nigerians. They are Senegalese and Malians.
It is therefore unwise of us as Nigerians to allow a few lawless foreigners to cause religious or ethnic war in our land. Let us separate criminals from their tribe or religion. We should resist the temptation to stigmatise Fulanis or Muslims because a few herdsmen take the law into their hands. For the avoidance of doubts, we denounce the criminal activities of these herdsmen but we should mind where we point accusing fingers.
Are Nigerians unaware that the same Fulani herdsmen have are also been attacking and killing Muslims in Zamfara, Niger, Kano, Bauchi and other Northern states? Why have we been ignoring this angle if we are sincere? Has the status of a herdsman changed when he attacks a Northern farmer or a Muslim and steals his cattle? Let us be objective. Let us stop criminalizing Fulanis and demonizing Muslims. It is the height of hypocrisy and absolute lack of patriotism to give the criminal activities a religious or ethnic colouration.
We therefore call on the Nigerian security agencies to do the needful. Nobody is above the law. Fayose or no Fayose, Pastor Johnson Suleman must still be questioned and cautioned for his vituperations and provocative statements. He cannot remain tied to Fayose’s apron string forever.
Even Fayose should be told point blank that his days as a free man are numbered. He must answer for his executive rascality and lawlessness. No governor in the history of Nigeria has abused his office like Fayose has done. His cup of executive recklessness has been filled to the brim. The people of Ekiti State have indeed entered a ‘one chance’ bus. Or what do we say about a state governor who is seldom sober? We do not need a micro-biologist to tell us whether or not Fayose has the ‘area boy’ syndrome virus.
We charge the Nigerian security agencies to spare no effort in dealing decisively with the notorious herdsmen who have brought untold hardship to Nigerian farmers. The full wrath of the law must be unleashed on them for killing innocent farmers and destroying their farms. We appeal to Muslims to go about their lawful duties and to remain calm and law abiding. We invite religious leaders to douse tension in their areas of influence in order to allow peace to reign.
As we round up, we remind the United Nations Organisation, the European Union and the African Union to take note of the hate speeches emanating from Nigeria and their authors for the day when the come will come to become.
