9TH ASSEMBLY: Lagos Lawmaker, Hon Sobur Olawale [Omititi] Enumerates First Year Achievement
There is need to have a comprehensive report of our achievements in office this past one year. Yesterday was our first year in office. There is no gain saying the fact that our one year in office was a remarkable and eventful one.
We started with the purchase of two buses to convey my Constituency children to their various schools. The significance of this singular effort is the succour that the introduction of these buses bring to our children. They are always punctual to school which enable them to face their studies and the resultant effect is improvement in their academic career.
Secondly, the unexpected Coronavirus pandemic otherwise known as Convid 19 pandemic was a global phenomenon which started from China in 2019 and spread like a wild fire across the World,Africa countries inclusive.
Nigeria was not exempted and when the first victim,an Italian Engineer was detected to be a carrier, the Lagos State took the responsibility upon itself and the index patient was quickly isolated and the rest as they say, is history.Consequently, the virus goes viral and we say Jack Robinson many States have been affected. The Federal Government came up with a lockdown down policy which affects Lagos and Ogun States and Abuja respectively. Various palliative assistance were introduced by the Federal and Lagos State Governments to cushion the effects of the pandemic. The period witnesses a lot of activities. These include but not limited to the following;1.Donatons of funds by the Federal Government, Lagos State Government and Local Governments and Local Community Development Areas, notable Philanthropists and Corporate Organisations.
2.Establishment of Isolation Centres in collaboration with notable Philanthropists and Companies.
3.Provision and stocking of these isolation centres with both the material and labour needed at the centres .
4.Provision of Stimulus packages to Lagosians by the Governments.
5.Dissemination of information through media, on the way to prevent the pandemic etc.
To complement Government efforts, Our Constituency embarked on 5 phased palliative assistance to our Constituents.
The first phase witnesses the distribution of 300(5kg)bags of rice,500 face masks,500 bottles of sanitizers and gloves to the Lga and Ward Executives and the Constituents.
The second was the 100 packs of Stimulus package given by LASG to Honourable members and was shared amongst the religious organisations, Constituents and Associations.
The Third phase was the sharing of another 300 (5kg)bags to the Constituents.
The fourth phase was the distribution of 230 Combo packs of palliative to the Constituents.
The Fifth palliative was the distribution of cash, gari and 100 bags of rice to Leagues of Imams and Alfas,Christian Associations, Artisans and the Constituents .
The various intervention programs went a long way to complement Government efforts .
Also,it’s convenient to say that the introduction of N5,000 to the widows and aged in my Constituency is aimed to assuage the sufferings of my Constituents. 125 Political and Non Political Constituents are enjoying this monthly financial assistance. The programme started in January this year is hoped to be sustained till the end of our 4 year tenure,God willing.
The Christmas and Ileya festival gifts started from the First tenure, continue till now will be sustained, In sha Allah.
Other benefits enjoyed through our educational, social and economic empowerment programs will be continued this tenure too.
Apart from this welfare program, my primary duties as a Legislator are being vigorously pursued.
Various motions have been moved and supported on the floor of the House. For instance, Motions on the regulated remuneration and welfare package for the Local Government political office holders, Insecurity in Lagos State,Adequate provision of Security for the Lastma operatives while on duty etc
Effective Representation of my Constituency both in and outside the Assembly.
And performance of Oversight functions regularly, more importantly on 57 Local Governments and LCDAs Administration and Community Affairs’ Committe which I chair at the Assembly.
These and more unmentioned achievements are my modest contributions over the year.
These successes are achievable because of the solid support which I enjoyed from you,my Constituents. I appreciate your unflinching support and pray that the remaining years’ achievement will surpass the present success. I solicit for your support and I promise to continue to be your responsible and responsive representative.
Thanks.
