FG Ready to Support Ogun in Agric Development, Ogbeh
Minister of Agriculture, Chief Audu Ogbeh, has assured the Ogun State government of the Federal government’s readiness to partner with the state towards enhancing it’s agricultural productivity.
Ogbeh stated this yesterday, during an inspection tour by the Presidential Task Force on Agriculture to Ogun State.
The minister, who expressed delight with the different initiatives of the Ogun State government in the area of agriculture, said the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration is ready to support the state government.
He spoke during an inspection tour by the team to the Eriwe Fish Farm Settlement in Odogbolu Local government Area of Ogun State.
Ogbeh encouraged the farmers in the state not to relent, adding that investing in agriculture is the way to eradicate poverty.
Noting that no country can survive on importation, he disclosed that the federal government would dedicate a day as from next year as Farmer’s Day to celebrate the greatness of farmers.
Speaking in the same vein, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, who is a member of the task force, urged farmers in Ogun State to continue to organise themselves properly into cooperative societies, which he said will give them a better chance of getting the needed financial assistance.
He assured that funds for the growth of agriculture across the country is available, he added that the Central Bank is ready to partner with the Ogun State government in thus regard.
Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Agriculture and Governor of Kebbi State, Senator Atiku Bagudu, in his address, commended the Ogun State Government for focussing fully on agriculture just like what had been done in the the as regards infrastructural development.
Speaking earlier, Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun appreciated the federal government for supporting agriculture, adding that this is one sector that is capable of driving the economy out of recession.
Amosun used the avenue to assure the federal government that any money given to support agricultural development in Ogun State would be judiciously utilised.
