Ogun, UNICEF Promote Infant Feeding With Quiz Competition

The Ogun State Government has affirmed its unrelenting determination to promote maternal and infant healthcare.
Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Otunba Adedayo Adeneye said this while speaking at the flag-off of a competition, which involved pregnant women and nursing mothers on infant and child feeding, organised by his ministry, in conjunction with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), in Ayetoro, Yewa North Local Government Area of the state.
Describing infancy as one of the most vulnerable stages of live, the commissioner said the Senator Ibikunle Amosun led administration had invested hugely in the health sector towards ensuring the health of the infants.
Adeneye, who appreciated UNICEF for its collaborative efforts in improving women and infant healthcare, urged nursing mothers to take advantage of the forum as the task of promoting quality infant nutrition cannot be shouldered by government alone.
 “The task cannot be done by government and its partners alone. It is necessary that women and nursing mothers make judicious use of benefits of the forum. It is not just a quiz competition but also a platform to educate our women, since infant stage is one of the most vulnerable stages of life”, he stated.  
Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Strategy, Mr Kola Peter Fagbohun, in his address, admonished mothers to concentrate on the upkeep of their children, pointing out that they have been charged with the responsibility of nurturing future leaders.
 The Chairman, Yewa North Local Government, Hon Adeagbo Rasaq Adigun appreciated the state government and UNICEF for making Ayetoro the first beneficiary of the programme, assuring that the Local Government Council has set machinery in motion to key into the programme.
Mrs. Soyebi Esther was the overall winner while Alalade Lateefat and Adebiyi Islamiyat came second and third positions respectively in the quiz competition.
