536 CONTRACTORS JOSTLE FOR EDUCATION INTERVENTION CONTRACT IN OGUN

A total of 536 contractors have signified interest to execute the intervention projects for 2012 and 2013 Action Plan of the Ogun State Universal Basic Education (SUBEB).

Chairman, SUBEB, Alhaji Olatunde Okewole disclosed this at a forum on the Tender Bids in Abeokuta, adding that the receipt of tenders from the applicants was in accordance with the due process guiding the execution of such projects by contractors bidding for them.

Okewole said that the submission of tenders followed a painstaking data collection of projects that neceded renovation and rehabilitation across public primary and junior secondary schools (JSS) in the state.
According to him, it became imperative for government to commence necessary intervention projects in the schools concerned so as to maintain educational standard as well as a conducive learning environment, not minding the prevalent economic recession.
He stated that the board would also embark on renovation of dilapidated structures, construction of new ones as well as procure instructional materials for the relevant schools.

The SUBEB boss, who admonished the contractors, who would be finally engaged to ensure quality and prompt completion of projects, assured that funds would be released at intervals until the projects are executed.

‘’At our own end, we shall ensure that funds are released on time to you at every stage of the completion of the contract agreement and the final stage of the contract, five percent retention fee will be released after our engineers and technical officers as well as board members are satisfied with the quality and specification of UBEC/SUBEB standard,’’ Okewole said.

On his part, the South-West  Co-ordinator, Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Mr. Olusegun Toluju urged the contractors to ensure quality and prompt completion of the projects.

Director, Due Process in the Ministry of Budget and Planning, Mr. Abdul-kareeem Ashimi, while highlighting the criteria for submission of tenders, assured that due process would be strictly followed.

The representative of the contractors, Mr. John Popoola, pledged of quality and timely delivery of quality projects.
