Orji Kalu Foundation Empowers Youth, Provides Seedlings For Planting
The Ugwueke farm owned by Orji Uzor Kalu Foundation was yesterday beseeched by youths who came to participate in the ongoing ‘Community seedling
Program’ sponsored by Orji Uzor Kalu Foundation.
The program is designed to Provide agricultural seedlings to youths and corporate
organizations who are interested in farming but lacks the start up resources.
As part of the Foundation’s vision in contributing to the eradication of hunger and poverty in communities, the coordinator of the program, Mr Chidiebere Osuagwu told the participants who were in batches, that the Foundation has embarked on creation of agricultural
internships that would provide career-related work experiences for interested participants mainly the youths.
He explained that the Foundation is willing to make sure that food which is a primary necessity of life is made available and affordable in many communities in Abia and beyond .
He also said that previous empowerment programmes the Foundation undertook yielded mind-boggling results, hence the encouragement to continue more empowerments.
Giving reasons why the participants were not trained before the seeds were ready, Osuagwu said it was the intention of the Foundation to synergize the internship and the sharing of the seedlings together because of time.
“We want to give you the already germinated seeds and teach you how best to go about it. We feel that through this, you won’t be discouraged in embracing agriculture . We have had experiences were some youths lose patience in waiting for the processes in farming . That is why we prepared the millions of seedlings ourselves and now we are set to give them out to you, ” he noted.
Further speaking, he said, ” this training is in batches and it is targeted to help the Foundation create many good farmers that could expand beyond what the Foundation is providing for you.
” We have worked with different Agricultural scientists to
bring out the best from the genetic diversity of Nigerian seeds. And we are hopeful that in no distant time, many families will produce what they need, while also exporting others , ” he stated.
