A new vibrant  pressure group Make Imeko-Afon Great Again Foundation (MIGAF)  with prominent indigenes of Imeko and environs as members has  received the sad news of the gruesome murder of our brother, Adetona Owolabi in Afon, Ogun-West, with shock and disdain. He was allegedly murdered by some herdsmen while tending to his farm. We condemn it unequivocally and call for justice.

In a Press Statement made available by the media Team of MIGAF, the late Adetona Owolabi, a farmer, was reported to have been working on his farm when he suddenly saw a herd of cattle and herdsmen.  He was said to have accosted the herdsmen and demanded to know why they brought their cattle to graze on his farmland.

The victim, who was said to have planted cassava, yam and vegetables on the farm was allegedly attacked with machetes. He succumbed to his injuries due to the severity of the cuts.

This happened even after the state government had taken some proactive steps to forestall such incidents in the state.

Security agencies must apprehend perpetrators of this heinous act and they must be brought to justice. Full and dispassionate investigation must be carried out with dispatch by the appropriate security agencies who are said to have made arrests. Justice delayed is justice denied.

Herdsmen have always been good neighbours of indigenes of Imeko-Afon local government area since time immemorial. Living with herdsmen has been mutually beneficial to both the herdsmen and the host communities. Remote and immediate causes of this crime must be addressed and nipped in the bud.

MIGAF seeks to use this medium to call on all the people of Imeko-Afon local government area, indegenes  and non-indegenes  alike, to eschew violence, remain peaceful and go about their lawful businesses. Violence is an ill wind and it blows no one any good.

MIGAF is following this closely and we shall see that justice is done, it is our firm belief that it is only justice and equitable resolution of this act that will serve as a deterrent to further heinous crimes.
