The Honourable  member representing Ikeja Constituency II at the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Adedamola Richard Kasunmu has applauded President Muhammadu Buhari over his declaration of June 12 as Nigeria’s Official Democracy and the posthumous conferment  of the highest National Honour in the land on Bashorun MKO Abiola, the acclaimed winner of the June 12, 1993 Presidential election.

President Muhammadu Buhari made the pronouncements via an executive order on Wednesday.

According to a statement from the youthful lawmaker, Hon. Kasunmu said, “President Muhammadu Buhari’s proclamation of June 12 as Nigeria’s official Democracy Day and the prestigious National honour  of GCFR bestowed on the late Bashorun MKO Abiola are totally commendable and I believe  the President deserves a loud ovation from all well meaning Nigerians as well as lovers of democracy”.

The lawmaker who is a member of the ruling APC further said that  “for all the 16 years , the PDP wasted in power, they refused to hearken to the voice of reason and thrived in denial by ignoring the calls to recognise June 12 as the real democracy day in our country. It gladdens the heart that the APC government ably led by our dear President has successfully undone the contraptions foisted on the nation by forces of retrogression”.

“By this historic pronouncement, the President has not only rebranded himself as a true Progressive, he has indeed earned himself a notable place in league of Heroes of Democracy in Africa.
Though this is coming 25 years after, it is however better late than never”.

Hon. Kasunmu, who is fondly called ARK by his constituents also eulogised the former Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other heroes of Democracy on their roles in achieving this milestone.
He said “On this note I want to say a big congratulation to all the legends,  heroes and heroines of the June 12 Struggles as symbolised by Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and all NADECO soldiers as well as lovers  and harbingers of true democracy worldwide. This is victory for democracy and common sense. Nigeria is on the path to greatness again and the Labour of our heroes past shall never be in vain.”
