Abeokuta Flood: Amosun Warns Against Indiscriminate Building of Houses, Dumping of Refuse
Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has embarked on an assessment visit to some areas affected by Friday’s flood, which wrecked havoc around Abeokuta metropolis, warning against the indiscriminate building of houses.
He said the flood, as a result of a three-hour downpour and said to have claimed lives and properties, was available.
Amosun, in company of his wife, Olufunso, Deputy Governor, Chief (Mrs.) Yetunde Onanuga and cabinet members, during the visits yestersay, asked residents to desist from building on waterways.
Such action, he noted, is unlawful and can cause great havoc when water movement is disrupted and hindered.
He also warned against the dumping of refuse inside drainages, after he visited Ijeja, Gbangba bridge, Itoku market, Kuto, Isabo and Lafenwa areas.
He commiserated with those who lost their loved ones, praying that God will comfort them and grant them the fortitude to bear the losses.
Amosun also assured those who lost valuables, of government’s commitment to intervene and cushon their losses.
While noting that the damage would have been more devastating, if not for the massive infrastructure put in place by his government, he stated that it would not relent in doing more, to avert a future occurrence.
