Glo officials visit home of winner to convince her to come for car prize
It took the visit of Glo officials to the home of 27-year-old Temitope
Bakare in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, on Monday before she became convinced
that she had indeed won a brand new car in the Festival of Joy
promotion.
Bakare, a hairdresser, had emerged the latest car winner in the promo,
but calls to her line from the venue of the draw were not answered.
Instead she kept cutting off the calls, and, after sometime, switched
off her phone. Some Glo staff members then decided to visit her home in
Itaalaga Street, which was about a kilometer away from Gloworld in Ijebu
Ode.
It was only then she believed. “When the calls kept coming and coming, I
thought they were from fraudsters. Though I dialed *611# short code and
kept recharging, I never thought I could win among millions of
subscribers. This was why I decided to switch off my phone to block
further calls”, she told the audience at the prize-presentation
ceremony on Tuesday even as she rolled on the floor, weeping in joy.
It was a joyous occasion as Bakare’s relations including her aunt who
gave her the SIM that won her the car, Mrs. Adijat Adesoye, her father;
Mr. Moroof Bakare, other members of the extended Bakare family and
community members all hugged her repeatedly in pure ecstasy.
Awolesi Olamide, a 19-year-old student of Business Administration at the
Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta and an indigenes of Sagamu who
won a power generator expressed joy. “I will take my generator to
school”, she said.
Twenty eight- year- old Motunrayo Alausa who won a sewing machine said
she would add it to her stock as a tailor while Seyi Odunaike, a 42
-year-old Juju musician thanked Glo for the priceless gift.
Regional Manager in charge of Glo Operations in Ogun State, Mr. Ikenna
Aguwuom, congratulated Bakare and the winners of other prizes including
generators, sewing machines and rechargeable fans, noting that more
winners will emerge in the days ahead. He enjoined other Glo users to
get on the winning train saying. “All they need to do is to dial the
dedicated short code *611# and recharge with N500 weekly to stand a
chance to win the rechargeable fan, N2,500 monthly recharge for the
Sewing Machine, N5,000 monthly recharge for the generator, and N10,000
monthly recharge for the car and N20,000 for houses”, he explained.
The State Commissioner for Finance, Honourable Waheed Odusile, who
graced the occasion said he was pleasantly surprised to see the quality
and quantity of prizes being presented to subscribers at the event. He
commended Globacom for taking special interest in the welfare of its
customers and their empowerment through Festival of Joy. Also, the
representative of the Nigerian Communications Commission, Mrs. Helen
Sadiku, who witnessed the presentation ceremony commended Globacom’s
forthrightness in executing the promo.
