How Oshodi/Isolo local government chairman, Kehinde Almaroof Oloyede cushioned the effect of subsidy removal
Otunba Kehinde Almaroof Oloyede, the chairman of Oshodi/Isolo local government rolled out measures to cushion the effect of the subsidy removal among indigenes of Oshodi on Monday.
Due to the hardship occasioned by the removal of fuel subsidy, Otunba Oloyede gave out over 10,000 customized packs of food items to indigenes who trooped en-mass to the local government secretariat for succour.
Items including rice, garri, vegetable oil, yam, plantain, spaghetti and other food stuffs were distributed in a seamless manner to thousands of people at the secretariat.
The chairman who has the welfare of Oshodi populace at heart attended personally to persons of special abilities and some elders who were at the distributing point.
Speaking about the motive of the initiative, Otunba Oloyede revealed that the palliatives were his way of reducing the hardship people of Oshodi were going through as a result of the economic downturn the nation is battling with.
He revealed that more palliatives are in the offing while encouraging Nigerians to hold unto hope and trust the government to take more drastic measures so that the country can overcome it’s present challenges.
Staffers of the local government were not left behind in the mega palliative measure. The chairman made a pledge to give out cash incentives to subsidize the burden of commuting to work daily.
Students and pupils of Oshodi/Isolo local government also enjoyed in the largesse. Primary school pupils who will be resuming for a new academic session next month would go to school with new school bags courtesy of the local government chairman.
Otunba Oloyede also ensured secondary school students who sat for the recently concluded General Certificate of Education Examination also benefitted in part of the measures provided to cushion the effect of subsidy removal.
400 GCE forms were bought for children of the less privileged which afforded them the opportunity to write the external examination.
