oladimeji…AS NLC SEEKS END TO ECONOMIC HARDSHIP
The Lagos State House of Assembly on Tuesday received members of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and other associated organisations protesting against the harsh economic situation of the country.
Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, who was represented by the Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Noheem Adams, commended the labour bodies for the peaceful conduct of the protest.
Addressing the organised labour, he recalled that the Assembly had recently raised concern over the state of the economy and passed a motion calling on Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to act.
“Just last week during plenary, members representing different constituencies deliberated extensively about the current hardship in the State.
“We are sure that things will get back in shape hopefully. Lagos State is one of the safest states in the country and the Lagos Assembly is seriously pushing for state police,” he noted while urging them to guide against a hijack of the protest by miscreants.
He further urged them to continue the protest in a peaceful manner .
Madam Funmi Sessi, Chairman of the NLC, Lagos chapter, lamented what she described as meagre workers’ salary.
“This (the salary) is not taking them anywhere. Most people live on borrowed money and have nothing to feed their family with.
“Today is the beginning of many other protests in the state until a solution is proffered,” she added.
She urged the Lagos State House of Assembly to pass their message to the President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and Governor Babijide Sanwo-Olu “that Lagosians are hungry and cannot continue to pay rents due to the hardship the citizens are facing.”
Other members who attended to the protesters include Hon. Adedamola Richard Kasunmu, Hon. Abiodun Tobun, Hon. Desmond Elliot, Hon. Ajani Owolabi, Hon. Ogunkelu Sylvester, Hon. Sanni Okanlawon, and others.
