A former Presidential Candidate and a Chieftain of the All Progress Congress, APC, Mr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim last weekend visited some former governors as part of the “mission to rebuild the bridge of national unity across the country.”
His first point of call was the North West geo-political zone, where he met former Governor Ahmed Markafi.
The 67 year old politician who was a former Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, was a governor of Kaduna State from 29 May 1999 to 29 May 2007, and was elected Senator for Kaduna North Senatorial District in April 2007 on the platform of the PDP.
According to Olawepo-Hashim, Markafi was “Governor in our class of ’99, and he left a legacy of Ethno-Religious tolerance in Kaduna State.”
From Kaduna, the train moved to the North Central State of Benue where Olawepo-Hashim also met former Governor Samuel Ortom, the immediate past governor of the State.
Ortom was also a Minister of State Trade and Investments during the presidency of Goodluck Jonathan.
Ortom, according to Olawepo-Hashim remains “a great leader of the Middle Belt region” and “we chatted on how to reconcile the home.”
