Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru, FCA, representing Lagos East Senatorial District, has extended a hand of support to over 10,000 households across the district in a remarkable demonstration of compassion, leadership, and commitment to the welfare of his constituents.

The large-scale initiative, which took place at his constituency office on the 16th of December 2024, provided essential food packs to families in need, enabling them to celebrate the end-of-year and New Year festivities with joy and dignity. The gesture, executed simultaneously across five key Local Government Areas (LGAs)—Ibeju-Lekki, Kosofe, Epe, Somolu, and Ikorodu— covered all 16 LGAs and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) that constitute the senatorial district.

The massive outreach was meticulously planned to ensure its seamless execution, with designated centres set up across the five focal LGAs.

This ensured that beneficiaries could conveniently access their food packs without undue stress.

The exercise targeted vulnerable families who are grappling with economic hardship, demonstrating Senator Abiru’s responsiveness to the needs of his people during challenging times.

The senator’s humanitarian efforts reflect his resolve to cushion the impact of rising costs of living and provide much-needed support during the festive period.

During the flag-off ceremony held at the Constituency Office in Ikorodu, Senator Abiru reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to uplifting his constituents, particularly those hardest hit by the current economic realities.

Addressing stakeholders, community leaders, and beneficiaries, Senator Abiru underscored the significance of the initiative as a practical step toward spreading relief and fostering hope within the district. He stated:

“This initiative reflects our collective responsibility to support one another, particularly those experiencing hardships during this season.”

“Guided by my mantra—‘Greater Good to the Larger Number’—we have ensured that no one is excluded, as we spread hope and relief across our district.”

Senator Abiru further explained that the initiative was carefully designed to be inclusive and reflective of the diversity within Lagos East Senatorial District.

He emphasized that the distribution of food packs prioritized fairness and equity, ensuring that beneficiaries came from various societal groups.

These included members of religious organizations such as the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the League of Imams and Alfas, political stakeholders, women groups, youths, students, artisans, senior citizens, persons living with disabilities, and other randomly selected constituents.

By including diverse beneficiaries, the exercise served as a unifying force, promoting harmony and strengthening bonds across the district.

As the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance, and Other Financial Institutions, Senator Abiru seized the opportunity to commend the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for its decisive and bold economic reforms aimed at repositioning the nation for long-term growth and sustainability.

Acknowledging the short-term challenges these reforms have posed, Senator Abiru urged constituents to remain patient and supportive.

He assured them that the benefits of these policies would soon translate into greater opportunities and prosperity for all Nigerians. He stated:

“This effort aligns with the expectations of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for all public officials to provide comfort to the people.”

“Despite the economic challenges arising from necessary reforms, we must unite to ensure sustainable progress for our nation.”

The distribution event attracted an impressive array of notable leaders, further underscoring its significance.

Among the dignitaries present were Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, the APC Lagos State Chairman, and Prince Abiodun Ogunleye, former Deputy Governor of Lagos State and apex leader of Ikorodu Division.

Their presence reflected the deep appreciation and recognition of Senator Abiru’s leadership in driving impactful programs for grassroots development.

He appealed for greater support for Persons With Disabilities (PWDs), particularly individuals with albinism, who require essential items such as sunscreen, eyeglasses, and protective materials like umbrellas.
