Super Eagles midfielder Mikel John Obi has passed medicals at Championship side Middlesbrough ahead of a short-term move.

After two years in China with Tianjin TEDA, Mikel is looking for a fresh challenge and is now on the joining Middlesbrough.

According to Sky Sports, the 31-year-old has had his medicals at Middlesbrough ahead of a short-term move to join the Tony Pulis’ side.

Since ending his season with Tianjin TEDA in December 2018, Mikel has been considering a slew of offers in Europe.

But the former Chelsea star was desperate to return to England where he still has a home and turned down offers from Roma and Wolfsburg to sign for Middlesbrough.

Mikel will be looking to aid Middlesbrough who is currently fifth on the Championship table to continue their push for promotion.

It’s a return to England where he spent 11 years with Chelsea.

Mikel will now look to get in Pulis’ side and get himself in contention to be in the Super Eagles squad for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
