BAYELSA 2015: ASSOCIATES WANT TIMI ALAIBE TO FLY APC FLAG
As Politicians in Bayelsa State prepare for the Governorship election in later this year there has been some intense alignment and re-alignment among political big-wigs in the State ahead of the election. The choice of Timi Alaibe seems to be enveloping the State but platform at which he will fly the ticket remain undecided.
Though Alaibe a passive PDP member, investigation by our reporter has revealed that many of his Political associates are already linking up with former Governor and leader of APC in the State Chief Timipre Sylva to connect there two in a bid to connect there two specifically for the election. This is coming on the background of sour relationship the businessman has with Governor Seriake Dickson and plans by out-going President Goodluck Jonathan and wife to support another aspirant, in a battle many described as ‘battle for takeover for soul of Bayelsa’ Meanwhile, all parties have already swing into action with a six-hour meeting held in Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa State, Bayelsa elders and political leaders thursday resolved to pressure Mr. Timi Alaibe to vie for the governorship position in the election coming up in November.According to the spokesman of the Bayelsa Elders Consultative Forum (BECF), Chief Prince Abeki, the decision to ask Alaibe to run for the governorship was reached following a careful review of the polity in the state, which they agreed needed a major rejigging. They reasoned that there is the need for a political reengineering in the state and that only a candidate of the calibre of Alaibe would be able to undertake the task.Although the elders are not particular about the party platform on which Alaibe could express his aspiration, they insisted that their choice of Alaibe would be unveiled in June, immediately after the inauguration of the president-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, on May 29.Abeki said the elders regretted that after 16 years of governance by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, there is nothing to show for it.“The state and the people must zcome first, hence the decision to go for Alaibe,” he stressed. He regretted that: “The people have not gotten what they deserved from the PDP, both at the federal and state level. Their support for the party has not culminated in anything tangible. The people deserve a change, and that is what we are going to offer them with the candidacy of Alaibe. That is what Alaibe represents and we are presenting him as the people’s choice in June.”He lamented that since 1999, the state has not been blessed with the kind of leader that it deserves and that this explains the continued backwardness of the state in terms of infrastructure and human resources development.Alaibe has been in the news lately as possible governorship aspirant in the election slated for later in the year. The calculation however is that, Mr Alaibe will have a smooth sail to fly APC flag should, their discussion with Alaibe worked well and the former Governor got a Ministerial appointment from the NEW GOvernment which will further strenghtened the Party in the State
