Super Falcons whipped a Canadian football club side, WoodBridge 9-0 in a warm-up match on Sunday to boost its confidence ahead of the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada kicking off on Saturday.

Francisca Ordega came off the bench to grab a hattrick in the second half after Ngozi Okobi and reigning Africa queen Asisat Oshoala had given the team a comfortable lead in the first half.

Further goals from veteran striker Perpetua Nkwocha, Esther Sunday and a brace from Courtney Dike ensured the team roll-over its opponent easily to send a huge statement of intent to its World Cup group E opponents.

The victory, though against an unrated club side, will lift the hopes of the Okon-led technical crew as his side regained its firing power after failing to score against the Canadian senior women national team.

The African representatives has been grouped with former champions USA, Sweden and Australia in the Group D of the World Cup scheduled to hold from June 6 to July 5 in Canada.

Nigeria will begin its campaign against Sweden at the Winnipeg Stadium on June 8.

Meanwhile, Okon has applauded the team’s impressive performance against WoodBridge and urged the team to focus on the main trophy in Canada.

“It was a very good game today. Though we won by a massive margin, I was very impressed with the team’s coordination in all departments. This does not mean we won’t still correct a few lapses here and there but I can see the team preparing well for the tournament proper.

“I’m glad we scored many goals because we need a strong firepower upfront to achieve our dream which is to lift the trophy of the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup. We will continue to work hard until we achieve this,” Okon concluded.
