FCT court to decide on ex-government officials bail request
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Court in Abuja is on Thursday set to rule on the bail application by Yau Mohammed Gital and Shuaibu Yakubu, the former senior officials in the FCT Ministry accused of corruption.
Gital, also a former member of the Land Allocation Committee, and Yakubu have appeared before Justice Abubakar Talba in Gudu, Abuja on a ten-count charge bordering on obtaining money under false pretence, conspiracy and forgery to the tune of N192 million.
Gital, is the former Chief of Staff to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory while Yakubu is Gital’s former Special Assistant.
Gital allegedly conspired with Yakubu, a former special assistant to the Chief of Staff and Jibril Tahir, the Managing Director, Jibmir Ventures Nigeria Limited, to obtain money from various unsuspecting persons under the false pretence that the money was for processing and facilitation of land allocation by the Federal Capital Development Authority.
However, the accused pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to them.
In view of their pleas, Justice Bello has ordered the accused to be remanded in prison custody and adjourned the case to Thursday for ruling on the bail application
