Former political office holders during the regime of Dr. Orji Kalu as Governor of Abia State under the auspices of Abia Political Forum on Sunday, led by its interim Chairman, Hon. Jones Udeogu, visited the Igbere home of the businessman-cum-politician to pledge their support and loyalty ahead of the yet-to-be-fixed date for the rerun election for Abia North Senatorial District.Kalu is the Progressive People’s Alliance candidate for the Abia North Senatorial District rerun poll.According to Udeogu, there is no doubt in the capacity of Kalu to give quality and responsive representation to the people of Abia North, owing to his track records in the private and public circles.

The former Commissioner for Finance acknowledged the large number of pro-poor projects and programmes initiated and executed by the former governor, adding that his free education policy afforded the less privileged the opportunity to send their children to school for free, who are today better off in their endeavours. He said: “Even though we had expected the Appeal Court to declare Kalu as the winner of the last poll, we are still optimistic that he will emerge victorious at the fresh poll.“He is a household name beyond the political circle.“Kalu has the capacity in terms of public sector experience and network of contacts to drive a robust legislative programme, not only for Abia North but for the South East in general.“As an astute philanthropist and a consummate politician, his contribution to humanity is beyond imagination.“No other politician can beat him to the race.“For a better life for us all, the man is OUK.”

Udeogu urged the electorate to defend their votes, noting that the police and other security agencies will provide security cover. He said any violation of the law by anyone, regardless of his social or political status, will not be condoned by the authorities. While thanking the delegation for their show of love and support, Kalu explained that his desire to represent the people of Abia North is borne out of the disconnect between the people and their representatives, which has led to neglect of infrastructure in the zone.

According to an elated Kalu, the people of Abia North deserve a decent life, but this can only be achieved through a strong representation that will drive government’s attention to the suffering of the masses, without fear.He said: “During my tenure as Governor of Abia State, we executed projects across the 17 local government areas that had meaningful impacts on the people.“This is the time for us to collectively work together and take Abia North to the next level.”

Kalu, while urging the electorate to reject Greek gifts, including cash from selfish politicians as they have nothing to offer, called on them to come out en-masse to vote for him on election day.The delegation had in attendance Hon. Emeka Okafor, former Commissioner of Commerce and Industry; Chief Ralph Egbu, former Secretary to the State Government; Hon. Chubuike Jonas, former Chairman of Arochukwu LGA; and Dr. Frank Chuks Osita, former Chairman Umunneochi LGA, among others
