Ahead Edo APC Primaries: Opeyemi Heads Appeal Committee, Promises Level Playing Ground For Aspirants
A chieftain of All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State, Hon. Bamidele Opeyemi. has assured Nigerians of a transparent governorship primaries election process, scheduled for this weekend in Edo State.
Bamidele gave the assurance shortly after he was inaugurated as the Chairman of the Appeal/Petitions Committee for the Edo State APC primaries at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja on Thursday.
He said as someone who had been involved in electioneering processes in the past years, he would do everything constitutionally possible to ensure a level playing ground for all aspirants and interests in the governorship race.
He added that though the task is an onerous one, he would not disappoint Nigerians, APC and Ekiti people in particular.
In his words: “The constitution of the party is very clear that before any aspirant can go to court to seek redress, he or she must have exhausted all internal structures put in place by the party, especially this Appeal Committee.
“I therefore urge all aspirants to take advantage of the committee to bring forward their possible concerns.
“Also, I urge members of our great party to make our job easy by following all laid down regulations by the party.
“Because if our conducts are lawful, the entire process will be hitch-free.
“I thank all party members and leaders for considering me worthy of chairing this committee on Appeal, which is saddled with the responsibility of addressing all matters arising from the Edo governorship primaries.”
Other members of the three-man committee are Alhaji Mustapha Salisu and Ekwy Onyido.
Earlier, the National Deputy Chairman (South) and former Governor of Ekiti State, Engineer Segun Oni, who expressed confidence in Bamidele’s ability to deliver on the assignment, said his integrity and background as a lawyer will make the job easier.
Oni also charged all committee members to cooperate with Bamidele and uphold the credibility of the APC as a party.
