Ahead Make Or Mar Nations’ Cup Qualifier In Egypt: Why Eagles Flight Was Delayed For 4Hours
It was a frustrating beginning for the Super Eagles as they began their journey to Alexandria, Egypt for the second leg of the double header against the Pharaohs of Egypt for the qualifying series for the 2017 African Cup of Nations.
The team spent about four hours at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja before the chartered Arik Air flight took off on their journey to Egypt.
The flight was to depart at 9:30am but did not leave until 1:30pm.
The major reason adduced was that the chartered flight was not cleared for the journey by the Egyptian authorities for landing, while Sudan also did not approve the aircraft flying over its airspace.
It is believed that this is part of the tactics by the Egyptians to frustrate the Super Eagles.
With this development, the Eagles may not be able to train at the stadium to be used for the match in Alexandria on Monday as earlier planned.
The match is scheduled for Tuesday.
Egypt drew 1-1 with the Super Eagles in the first leg of the qualifier played at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna, Kaduna State.
