BILLS SPONSORED BY YOUNGEST LAWMAKER IN LAGOS ASSEMBLY, HON KASUNMU PASSED INTO LAW
The Lagos State House of Assembly scored another crucial legislative point on Monday when it passed the Lagos State Sports Commission and Lagos State Sports Trust Fund Bills into laws for the development and promotion of sports in the state.
The House passed a Bill for a Law to Provide for Establishment of Lagos State Sports Commission and for Connected Purposes and a Bill for a Law for Establishment of Lagos State Trust Fund and for Connected Purposes.
The two bills, which were sponsored by the Chairman, House Committee on Youth, Sports and Social Development, Hon. Adedamola Richard Kasunmu were given accelerated passage after the House adopted Kasunmu’s recommendations as its resolutions.
The bills, thereafter, were read for the third time and passed after the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, conducted voice votes on each section of the bills.
The Speaker thereafter directed the Acting Clerk of the House to forward clean copies of each bill to Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode for assent.
Speaking with reporters after the plenary, Kasunmu said that the two bills would help to take sports to greater heights in the state.
“The board of the commission will be properly constituted for the development of sports in the state. The commission will replace ministry of sport as it were. It will enhance participation and training in sports.
“The new laws seek to promote young talents in sports to grow. Sports Trust Fund is saddled with the responsibility of raising funds and grants to encourage sporting activities in the state.
“Lagos has been doing well in sports; the laws will make the state a giant in sports, not only in Nigeria, but also in Africa. We will stop at nothing to make sure we take sports to greater heights,” .
I thank our dear Speaker, Rt. Hon. Obasa, the Principal Officers, my distinguished colleagues in the House and members of my Committee for their unflinching support in ensuring the success of these crucial bills. I also thank the good people of Ikeja Constituency II for the opportunity to serve them in this capacity.
34 year old Hon. Kasunmu representing Ikeja Constituency II at the Lagos State House of Assembly is the youngest and arguably one of the most vibrant lawmakers in the 8th Assembly. He is the first new legislator in the 8th Assembly to achieve such feat.
