The Deputy Majority Leader, representing Ikeja Constituency 2 in the Lagos House of Assembly, Hon. Richard Adedamola Kasunmu on Friday October 11th joined other members of the assembly to hold 9th Constituency Stakeholders Meeting throughout the 40 Constituencies in the state.
This year’s theme is: “Ensuring Food Security For A Sustainable Future: Youth Participation and Home-Grown Farming.”
Hon. Kasunmu emphasized the need to take up home grown farming as it focuses on putting an end to scarcity and high cost of foods in the country.
The meeting also afforded deliberations on root cause of food insecurity, pointing to the fact that youth have abrogated their social responsibility to the government and subsequently wanted government providing many things to the citizenry
According to Hon. Kasunmu, in accordance with United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, eradication of poverty, zero hunger, good health and well being, “it’s instructive to state that we, at the lagos State House of Assembly are committed to making Lagos a producing state and not a consuming in the agricultural value chain, to tackle the present day reality food insufficiency, our commitment is exemplified through transformational laws, policies in the agricultural sector”, he said.
The Lagos State government, enabled by the House of Assembly has introduced and inaugurated several initiatives to increase agricultural productivity and output in the state. This initiatives are anchored in building competence among farmers and improving agro-business climate and by directing these interventions in the agricultural sector.
He seized the occasion to call on all constituents who have landed properties to prioritize yielding them for agricultural purposes in order to encourage the participation in farming activities.
Hon Kasunmu shed light on various empowerment he had been able to provide for his constituents both financially and otherwise.
Some of the constituents who graced the occasion yesterday were full of gratitude to the Deputy Majority leader of the Lagos House Assembly. Speaking immediately after the meeting, Ikeja LGA Chairman and chair of Conference 57, Mayegun Dally Adeokun, says “fortunately for us, we have the Deputy Majority Leader in our Constituency, this year’s meeting focuses on Agric, home grown and this issue is very important for us in Ikeja Constituency especially for our youths. I am happy because the Deputy Majority Leader has gone further. Day-in, day-out, he keeps on improving himself.”
He described him as second ‘koseleri of Ikeja’ (never happen before), “we have the first one in Hon. James Faleke, we also have the junior ‘koseleri’ in DML”, he said.
‘Koseleri is loaded with meaning, uncommon achievements and in Ikeja when we noticed this, we try to give them special name, so, I can say categorically with emphasis that Hon Damola Kasunmu is the second ‘koseleri’ of Ikeja.
He urged the populace to take it easy on government, especially the federal government, adding we should all understand where we are coming from, the situation we are in, when government collects N10,000 as revenue, N9,700 is used for debt payment, it is very painful, it’s a temporary pain and I know that in few months, we shall see changes, we have no choice, we have to be very patience with them.
Also expressing delight is madam Kafayat Shittu, from ward 4 Ojodu, who said, “Hon Kasunmu has been good to them, from inception before we voted him in my area, we worked for him, when he gets here, where he’s presently, may God prolong his life for us in order for him to continue his laudable works because when he gets better position, we, the constituents would be happy as well and he would continue this laudable works for us.”
Also speaking, Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria in Ikeja, Prophet Enoch Adesola stated, “we can say, seeing is believing, he’s made positive impact in the life of people in Ikeja, we are proud of him and we would continue to pray for him so that he could do more”.
“Like today’s stakeholders meeting really based on Agriculture, we are trying to call back our people into our senses that, that’s the only thing we could do to survive, it’s a wonderful one, he listen to people anytime to need his attention, he’s always willing to give it and like he said, he’s rendered so many financial helps for his Constituency, so, he’s doing well and we are proud of him and we would continue to pray for him so that he could do more.
We could see in Lagos, when Governor Sanwo-Olu says something, he would always implement it, we could also see it from the message sent in by House of Assembly speaker, Hon Mudashiru Obasa, we are made to understand that so many facility has been provided for our youths to come back into Agriculture so that the issue of hunger would come to an end, this time around, government is trying to teach us on how be dependent on ourselves, we can’t be pushing everything on government that’s why we are being encouraged to go back into Agriculture.
So, Lagos is doing well with provision of land for us to enable us carry out our assignment on Agriculture successfully, I must commend the state government for doing so”, he said.
