Rubby Obinna, a media aide of a former Governor of Abia State and Pillar of Sports in Africa, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, has asked a former skipper of the Green Eagles, Chief Segun Odegbami, to leave Kalu out of his (Odegbami’s) failure to vie for the presidency of world football governing body, FIFA.

Obinna, in a statement on Wednesday, said the insinuation by Odegbami in the media that Kalu was behind his failed FIFA presidential bid was far from the truth. The statement reads in full: “It has come to our notice that one Segun Odegbami, whom media reports said that failed to get enough support for his bid to become the next FIFA president, has hinged his failure on our principal, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, a former Governor of Abia State.

“We would like to say that Kalu had no hand in the failure that Odegbami was peddling about. Kalu does not support the failure of anyone or merry in the failure of others.“It was a campaign of calumny gone too far by Odegbami against Kalu. It was obvious that Odegbami had haboured animosity against Kalu. If not, Odegbami would not had published such heinous comment in the media against Kalu.

“We suspect that Odegbami was on a campaign to pull Kalu down by painting him black so that others would see Kalu as a man who enjoys in the failure of others.“Odegbami won’t succeed in his inglorious attempt to pull Kalu down!“We would like to tell Odegbami that Kalu is a man who wants everyone to succeed in their respective positive endeavours and has always walked his talk in empowering people of diverse pedigrees. Kalu lives every minute with love, kindness and gratitude. Hence, we are calling on Odegbami to leave Kalu alone and take responsibility of his failure.”
