Grange School Wins Zenith Bank/Ikoyi Club Swimming Gala

Grange School, Ikeja, has emerged the winner of the 3rd edition, Zenith Bank/Ikoyi Club 1938 Interschool Swimming Gala.
The competition held at the swimming pool of the Ikoyi Club 1938, Ikoyi, Lagos on Saturday.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that selected private schools in Lagos State and a private club participated at the competition sponsored by Zenith bank.
The one-day event featured no fewer than 60 swimmers.
American International School placed second at the competition while the British International School occupied the 3rd position.
The President, Aquatic Federation of Nigeria, Babatunde Fatai-Williams, commended the organisers for their initiative aimed at promoting grassroots development of swimming.
Fatai-Williams said: “Kudos to Ikoyi Club and Zenith bank, organisers of this great event; this is excellent.
“We could see spirit of competitiveness; also the standard is high.
“I could see good techniques on display, good start, dive and power.
“I also want to say that the coaches have put in their best in training these young ones. They should keep up the good works.”
The Vice-Chairman, Organising Committee of the tournament, Oloyede Obatoyinbo, said that the competitors broke records.
Obatoyinbo said: “I am impressed with the crop swimmers we have here; we have had records broken in different ages, 11-12, 13-14 and 15-16.
“With the rate at which this competition is going, the sky is the limit. We are seeing our swimmers at their highest performance.”
NAN reports that Tosin Obatoyinbo won the Most Valuable Player award in the male category with four gold and two silver, while Kishi Deji-Roberts emerged MVP in the female category, with four gold.
