HON. KASUNMU CANVASSES FOR YOUTH RE-ORIENTATION AT INT. YOUTH DAY
‘A nation with perverted, wrongly-oriented and visionless youth has no future. It is high time we speed up the process of re-orientating our youth population towards building a greater Nigeria’. This was the submission of Honourable Adedamola Richard Kasunmu of Lagos House of Assembly in his Keynote Address at the celebration of International Youth Day 2015 in
Queens College, Yaba, Lagos was organised by the Lagos State Chapter of National Youth Council of Nigeria in collaboration with United Nations, Anchor Tutors and Titivator Hub. The theme of the programme focused on Youth Civic Engagement.
In his speech, Hon. Kasunmu, who represented the Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Mudashiru Obasa at the occasion, counselled the youth on the importance of participating in civic engagement, which he described as ‘promoting the quality of life in a community, through both political and non-political processes’. According to him, the benefits of civic engagement to the youth include developing better and more creative ideas and solutions; implementing ideas, programs, and policies faster and more easily. He also emphasized that civic engagement leads to reduced risky behaviour, increased success in school and greater civic participation later in life.
A lawyer by training, prior to his election as a member of the 8th Assembly of the Lagos legislative chamber in April 2015, Honourable Adedamola Richard Kasunmu was a vibrant youth activist who organised a lot of youth awareness programmes.
Others speakers at the event include the Chairman, Lagos Chapter of National Youth Council of Nigeria, Otunba Quduns Adebisi; Director Anchor Tutors, Mrs Bukola Fawole-Thompson; Initiator, Titilators Hub, Mr Aminu Lookman Enitan; Former PRO, NYCN-Lagos, Mr. Ishola Akeem Olalekan and others. Prizes and certificates of participation were also presented to the youth at the event.
