The honourable member representing Ikeja Constituency 2 at the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Adedamola Richard Kasunmu has called Nigerian leaders to invest more in the youth in order to guarantee a better future for the country.
The young and brilliant lawmaker made this clarion call today during a leadership training seminar organised by the Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development as part of the activities commemorating the year 2016 International Youth Day.
Delivering a lecture entitled “Engaging the Youth constructively in implementing the Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development” at the seminar, Hon. Kasunmu stated that “Agenda 2030 is laudable universal vision designed to enhance and guarantee the future of our young people. To achieve it, all hands must be on deck. We must start from re-orientating ourselves and restructuring our value systems.”
Speaking further, the eloquent lawmaker who is also the Chairman, House Committee on Youth, Sports and Social Development, stated that “addressing the challenges in our education system such poor infrastructure in our schools, inadequate manpower, outdated curriculum and many others such as the gap between the public and private schools will go a long way in grooming a crop of youths who can stand heads and shoulder with their contemporaries anywhere in the world and lead effectively in various spheres of life.
In the area of investing in the youth, Hon. Kasunmu who is also addressed as ARK, gave kudos to the government of Lagos State for creating the Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment as well as the Employment Trust Fund which is about to take-off.
According to him, these commendable steps taken by the government have no doubt offered massive opportunities to our youths across the state to excel and achieve their dreams.
Hon. Kasunmu also commended the Lagos State House of Assembly under the able leadership of Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa for putting the legal framework for these lofty policies in place.
He concluded by imploring those in leadership positions to strive harder in investing more in the youth to secure the future.
