Federal lawmaker representing Ikorodu, Babajimi Benson, has commissioned the newly completed Lucky Fiber-Erikorodo-Odogunyan Road, emphasizing the need for greater electoral participation in the division.

Speaking at the event, Benson urged residents to work towards securing over 250,000 votes in future elections, citing Ikorodu’s strategic importance in Lagos State.

Our last election turnout was too low. I did a statistical analysis of the number of BRT buses coming in and out of Ikorodu daily, and no other division or local government has even half of it. The same applies to ferry transport,” Benson stated.

He underscored Ikorodu’s influence in Lagos politics, noting, “When Ikorodu sneezes, Lagos catches a cold. If we block Ketu-Ikorodu Road, we will receive immediate calls because it is a crucial route.”

Benson also commended the Lagos State government’s efforts in infrastructural development, particularly in Isawu, where N30 billion has been earmarked for compensation for houses affected by road construction.

Hon. Adeola Banjo, Chairman of Ikorodu North LCDA, lauded Benson’s contributions to road infrastructure, street lighting, and drainage

Hon. Babajimi has developed roads in areas such as Eyita, Lambo Lasuwon, Isiwu, Eruwen, and Lucky Fiber-Erikorodo, linking Odogunyan. In Eyita alone, 13 link roads have been completed, significantly improving accessibility,” Banjo said.

He added that similar projects had been executed in Lambo Lasuwon, Isiwu, and Eruwen, with local communities expressing appreciation for Benson’s dedication to development.

Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Rural Development, Hon. Nurudeen, described Ikorodu as a rural area undergoing rapid transformation.

“Babajimi Benson is working tirelessly to ensure development reaches every corner of Ikorodu. He executes projects without delay,” Nurudeen said.

He further revealed that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu had facilitated the distribution of over 10 transformers to the community in the last year.

“If your community lacks the funds for transformer installation, the governor has directed that you send a request to the Lagos State government,” he added.

Hon. Gbolahan Ogunleye, a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, highlighted the region’s agricultural potential.

“Ikorodu North is an agricultural area. While Epe has crude oil, we should focus on agriculture. Residents can start poultry farming from their homes,” Ogunleye advised.

Hon. Olusesan Daini Ogunlewe applauded Benson’s contributions, stating, “Almost all the communities you have impacted have found meaningful ways to appreciate your work.”

Daini also noted that Benson’s frequent engagement with stakeholders demonstrated his commitment to Ikorodu’s development.

“This may not be an official stakeholders’ meeting, but with your dedication, you bring Ikorodu stakeholders together almost monthly,” he added.

The event concluded with community leaders expressing optimism about continued infrastructural growth in Ikorodu.
