Kalu Mourns Maduekwe, Amadi
Eminent businessman and former Governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Kalu, has commiserated with the government and people of Abia State over the demise of Chief Ojo Maduekwe, a former Minister of Foreign Affairs and Secretary of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Kalu acknowledged the contributions of the late public administrator and diplomat to the social and political development of the country.
According to the former governor, Chief Maduekwe was an astute politician who gave his best while serving in different capacities in the public sector.
In a statement signed by his Special Adviser, Kunle Oyewumi, Kalu said: “It was with rude shock that I received the news of the passing of Chief Ojo Maduekwe.
“He was a seasoned politician and a community leader.
“Our prayers and thoughts are with the deceased’s family at this mournful period.”
Kalu admonished the Maduekwe family to take solace in the fact that their patriarch lived a purposeful life.
The businessman prayed God to grant the deceased eternal rest and also give his family the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss.
In a similar development, Kalu has described the late literary icon, Captain Elechi Amadi, as a talented personality who used his literature works to promote a just society.
According to Kalu, the demise of the author and poet is a big loss to the nation, noting that gifted writers like Captain Amadi were few in the literary circle.
In a statement signed by Oyewumi, Kalu said: “Nigeria has lost a great writer and indeed a statesman, who used his talent for the uplift of the people.
“Through his books such as the Concubine, The Great Ponds, Isiburu, Sunset in Biafra, Dance of Johannesburg, Peppersoup, the Road to Ibadan, the Slave, Estrangement and the Woman of Calabar, he became a household name in the literary world.
“Captain Amadi was a perfect gentleman and a rallying point in his Aluu community.
“Above all, he lived well and will be greatly missed for his literature works and community service.”
Kalu, while commiserating with the government and people of Rivers State and the Elechi family, called on the deceased’s children and loved ones to sustain the good legacy of their patriarch.
The businessman prayed God to grant the author a blissful rest.
