Lagos State Government, APC Chairman Lauds Jimi Benson Over Construction of Ori-Okuta, Other Roads in Ikorodu
Rep. Babajimi Benson, the federal lawmaker representing Ikorodu, alongside the APC party Lagos State Chairman, Hon. Cornelius Ojelabi, commissioned the Ori-Okuta road in Ikorodu West LCDA on the 8th of June 2024.
The new road, which links over 30 communities, has been met with widespread acclaim from residents and stakeholders alike.
Leaders, administrators, and stakeholders from across Ikorodu division gathered at the Ori-Okuta community to celebrate the milestone.
With approximately 57 road construction projects completed, Rep. Benson, often referred to as the “Julius Berger of Ikorodu,” has once again demonstrated his commitment to delivering the dividends of democracy to his constituents.
The Ori-Okuta road project is particularly significant as it connects Ikorodu North LCDA with Ikorodu West LCDA.
This new commissioned route provides a crucial alternative for commuters travelling to Lagos through the Ogijo axis, allowing them to bypass the frequently congested Ikorodu garage.
The new connection through the Agric extension is expected to significantly ease traffic flow and improve accessibility for residents.
Residents expressed their joy and relief at the completion of the road, highlighting the positive impact it will have on their daily lives.
The project has not only enhanced mobility but has also spurred economic activities in the linked communities.
Speaking to residents and special guests before the commissioning, Rep. Benson explained that his dedication to improving infrastructure in Ikorodu is as a result of the confidence placed on him by his constituents through their votes during the election.
He said that the people of Ori-Okuta shouldn’t thank him, adding that he should be the one appreciating them for believing in his leadership.
“This road construction effort will enhance the quality of life for our people. By improving connectivity, we are fostering economic growth and ensuring that the benefits of development reach every corner of our constituency,” he said.
The Lagos State APC Secretary, Hon. Muyideen Adeola Jokomba; Hon. Gbolahan Ogunleye (OGA), representing Ikorodu Constituency 1 at the Lagos State House of Assembly; and Hon. Abiodun Moshood Aro (AMA), representing Ikorodu Constituency 2 at the Lagos State House of Assembly, were present at the event to extol the unique performance of the federal lawmaker.
The APC party State Chairman, Hon. Cornelius Ojelabi, commended Rep. Babajimi Benson for his relentless efforts in enhancing infrastructure and urged other leaders to emulate his dedication to public service.
Hon. Ojelabi highlighted the successful completion of the Ori-Okuta road as a reflection of the positive changes that effective leadership can bring to communities.
“Rep. Benson has brought a new dimension of leadership to the fabric of the All Progressive Congress (APC),” Ojelabi asserted.
He explained that the road project exemplifies the importance of robust infrastructure in driving progress and improving the well-being of residents.

Council chairmen across the Ikorodu division were present at the event: Hon. Wasiu Adesina, Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government; Hon. Motunrayo Gbadebo-Alogba, Executive Chairman of Ijede LCDA; Hon. Adeola Adebisi Banjo, Executive Chairman of Ikorodu North LCDA; and Prince Wasiu Kunle-Agoro, Executive Chairman of Imota LCDA.
Also in attendance were Bldr. Sesan Daini, Executive Chairman of Igbogbo Baiyeku LCDA, who anchored the event alongside Comrade Fakolade Oluwafemi Oluwaseun JP, Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, Ikorodu branch.
The Executive Chairman of Ikorodu West LCDA, Hon. Sulaiman Olarewaju, expressed profound appreciation towards Rep. Babajimi Benson for the successful construction of the Ori-Okuta road.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Olarewaju detailed the significance of the project, which cost billions of Naira to accomplish.
The council chairman also commended Rep. Benson for his unique leadership style, emphasizing the synergy that has characterized his interventions.
“Rep. Benson’s intervention is a synergy that is unique to his kind of leadership, which mostly brings satisfaction to residents,” Olarewaju stated.
Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Rural Development, Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje; former Lagos State Head of Service Commission Chairman, Basorun Tajudeen Rotinwa; Elder Statesman Otunba Amid Adekunle Oduborisa; and Apex Leader, Alhaji Musiliu Lawal-Animashaun (De-Cubano) occupied the special guests high table.
Chief Murisiku Alowale, Baale of Ori-Okuta community, referred to Rep. Benson as a blessing to his community.
He also extended words of encouragement and prayers for the member of the House of Representatives, asking for God to uphold him.
The Chairman of the Ori-Okuta Community Development Association (CDA), Mr Aljuwon Olumuyiwa assured Representative Benson that the newly completed road construction in the area will be durable and long-lasting.
He explained the community’s commitment to maintaining the road, stating that they will take ownership of it to ensure its proper upkeep.
“This partnership of ownership is a principle that we in this community will continue to uphold,”

Subsequently, Awards were presented to Rep. Benson by reputable members of the community, including a special medal presented to him by the Executive Chairman of Ikorodu West LCDA.
After the commissioning of the Ori-Okuta road, Rep. Benson, accompanied by his entourage, moved to inspect the ongoing road construction at Lambo Lasunwon Road in Ikorodu North LCDA and the 13km Oreta-Offin road construction in Igbogbo Baiyeku LCDA.
