Concerned politicians and leaders in Ibarapa have asked Governor Seyi Makinde to order the probe a member of the 8-man Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) for meddling in partisan politics. According to them, the OYSIEC Commissioner’s actions are inimical to the sincerity and fairness on the part of the Commonwealth and is capable of casting doubts on the outcome of the council election to be conducted by commission.
According to a statement released by Concerned Ibarapa Elders, made available to our reporter, Mr Remi Ayoade, a Commissioner at OYSIEC, an independent electoral body set up by law to conduct impartial and fair local government elections in the state, has grossly violated the lawalready compromised his office by playing partisan politics, signing off Illegally on results of parallel primary election conducted by an unrecognized faction of the PDP in Ibarapa North Local Government to satisfy his personal political purpose.
He acted on personal capacity (not on behalf of OYSIEC) to try to legalize illegality and has thereby brought the independence of OYSIEC under questioning and thereby casting a shadow on the promise by Governor Seyi Makinde to conduct a credible local government election on May 15 ,2021.
In the statement signed by Alhaji Ibrahim Ado from Igangan, the group said Ayoade’s continuous stay as an OYSIEC Commissioner will jeopardize its image as a non-partisan, independent Electoral body.
The political elders who are members of the PDP alao said that the purported result sheet for Ibarapa North local government PDP Chairmanship primary that Ayoade signed off on, has since been confirmed to be fake by yhe party, confirming their allegation.
“If some of us who belong to the PDP could express deep concern about this gross abuse of office by Ayoade, the outrage of the opposition could only be imagined. That is why we are making the needed call to His Excellency Governor Makinde to do the needful about Ayoade by removing him from OYSIEC to instill confidence in the electorate and the people of the state in general”, the statement read.
