Manu: Mistakes cost us against Brazil

The Flying Eagles handler feels blunders were decisive as his side lost 4-2 to Brazil at the Stadium Taranaki on Monday morning

Nigeria U20 coach Manu Garba was left to rue his side’s defensive errors as they bowed 4-2 to Brazil in Group E’s opening game at the Fifa U20 World Cup at the Stadium Taranaki in New Plymouth.

A goal in each half of the encounter by Flor Da Silva Judivan plus strikes from Gabriel Jesus and Boschilia Gabriel ensured the south Americans – for the fourth time proved their superiority over the Flying Eagles at this level of the competition.

Speaking at a post-match conference, the former Golden Eaglets’ gaffer expressed his disenchantment with the result which he blamed on mistakes committed by his team in the second half of the encounter.

“It’s a huge disappointment. We carved out the better chances in the first half and we should have led at the break,” said Manu at a post-match conference.

“The first 45 minutes reflected what we’re capable of. We simply made two mistakes that cost us dearly in the second period.

“All in all we played our part in a really great match and I’d like to congratulate Brazil on their victory; they’re a very good team,” he concluded.
