MTV Opens Up On Why MAMA Won’t Hold In Nigeria

It has started looking like a tradition since Nigeria hosted two of the five editions of MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA) .

 

The first ever event held at the Velodrome in Abuja in 2008.

The second edition held in Kenya in 2009 while the prestigious awards returned to Nigeria in 2010 for its third edition which held at the Eko Hotel and Suites.

After a 3 year hiatus, MAMA returned last year and was held in KwaZulu-Natal in Durban, South Africa where the event is again holding this year.

Speaking in Lagos, on Friday July 3, senior Vice President and Managing Director Viacom, Alex Okosi said that the organizers of the continental award are concerned about taking the event across Africa.

‘We do want to have it across the continent although we currently have a partnership with Durban. Nigeria has hosted twice and it would definitely be back,’ he said
