Nigeria captain raises security concerns ahead of Chad CAN 2017 qualifier

Nigeria skipper Vincent Enyeama raised security fears ahead of the Super Eagles’ home game against Chad on Saturday in their opening game of the 2017 Nations Cup qualifiers campaign.

The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) had chosen the stadium of Ahmadu Bello in Kaduna to host the game.

The state of Kaduna has witnessed unrest following drivers and bikers protesting the arrest of their colleagues.

“I’m not satisfied with the choice of Kaduna and you know I’m a very outspoken person,” the Nigeria keeper was quoted as saying on Nigerian newspaper Vanguard. “I don’t like the choice of Kaduna based on what is happening in the country, but then the government knows exactly what to do to make us safe.”

“I am concerned not because it’s Kaduna, but because of the security thing. I really don’t care where we play, as long as there is going to be security and safety of the players and everyone coming to watch the match.”

Dropping from heroes to zeros, Nigeria failed to reach the 2015 Nations Cup finals just after winning the 2013 title.

The three-time African champions now hope to bounce back and return to the continent’s elite.
