Nigerian Governors Back State Police

The Nigerian Governors Forum on Monday supported the proposal for the creation of State Police, which was brought back into lime light  by the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo (SAN).
Osinbajo had at the Senate Security Summit last week solicited for the creation of State Police to tackle insecurity across the country.
The Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum,  Abdul Aziz Yari, in an interview said the creation of State Police is the only way out of the current security problem in the country, adding the governors had supported it since 2015.
Yari, who spoke on Monday during the continuation of the Senate Security Summit, said the fear that State Police will be abused by some governors could not hold water.
He said since the judiciary at the state level has not been abused by governors,  so alao will the state police not be used to the detriment of the people.
 
 
Yari spoke after about six hours closed door session with lawmakers in Abuja to address the lingering insecurity in the country.
