Uruguayan combative midfielder Lucas Torreira has been named as the club’s player of the month for November ahead of Super Eagles star Alex Iwobi, Three Lions defender Rob Holding and Germany goalkeeper Bernd Leno.
Torreira has been in superb form since joining the Gunners from Sampdoria in the summer, scoring two goals in his last three appearances for the club and winning the man of the match award in five consecutive matches starting from the 1 – 1 draw against table-toppers Liverpool in the first week of November.
According to the polls conducted by the club on its social media accounts and website, Torreira received a total of 70 per cent of the vote cast to win the award with Leno, Holding and Iwobi coming second, third and fourth respectively.
Iwobi recently revealed he was close to quitting the Emirates.
“I felt that maybe I wasn’t rated at Arsenal but I always felt at home here, so I signed the scholarship forms,” he was quoted as saying by Evening Standard.
“Then it was all about proving people wrong.”
Iwobi made his first-team debut for Arsenal in a League Cup clash against Sheffield Wednesday in October 2015 and has 117 appearances to his name to date.
The Hale End Academy product was an Arsenal trialist from the age of six and officially signed for the north London club aged nine.
