Ondo Guber Poll: Appeal Court Reserves Judgement In Jegede’s Case

The Court of Appeal in Akure has reserved judgement in the appeal of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the October 10 governorship election in Ondo State, Eyitayo Jegede.

The three-man panel of justices led by Theresa Ngolika Orji-Abadua, ruled after counsel to Jegede, Oyeachi Ikpeazu, SAN, argued that the sitting governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, was “not properly nominated” by his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), and so should be sacked.

However, counsel to Governor Akeredolu, the All Progressives Congress and the Independent National Electoral Commission, Akin Olujimi, Lateef and Charles Edosanmwon respectively, faulted the arguments of Jegede’s counsel, saying the case was a pre-election matter.

The court, currently on recess, is expected to hear the cross-appeals of Akeredolu, APC and INEC when it resumes.
