PDP Jittery Over Kalu’s Defection…….APC
The leadership of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Abia state has said that its Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, counterpart, has become jittery with the influx of eminent persons into the APC.
State chairman of APC, Donatus Nwankpa, who was reacting to last week’s defection of former Abia governor, Orji Uzor Kalu’s to the party, added that the APC in the South East states now boasts of leading politicians who can sway victory to the party in 2019. Describing Kalu’s defection as long awaited, Nwankpa told newsmen that “Orji Uzor Kalu is an asset to the party in the state, the Southeast and the country as a whole. I am sure he will use his wealth of experience in politics to grow the party in the zone. It is one of the landmark achievements of the leadership of the APC.The ruling PDP has become jittery with the influx of eminent politicians into the APC. The PDP is already afraid of 2019.” Nwankpa also boasted that the defection of Kalu and other political bigwigs into the party in the state and other parts of the southeast is a clear indication that the party is growing in the region. “Today, we are witnesses to the number of bigwigs in Abia and southeast who have joined the party. It shows that we are becoming formidable and remains a party to beat in 2019 general election. I want to assure you that more aggrieved personalities are going to join the party.” Confusion looms Meanwhile, a founding chieftain of the All Progressives Congress APC in Abia state, Prince Paul Ikonne has described the recent defection to the party, of Orji Uzor Kalu, as capable of bringing confusion to the party, saying the ex-governor has nothing to offer politically. Ikonne, who was the gubernatorial candidate of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, in the 2011 elections in the state, disclosed this Sunday in Abuja while reacting to Kalu’s defection to the APC. He said: “There is nothing to celebrate about Orji Kalu joining the party. If every person in Nigerian politics plays like Orji Kalu plays, you will find out that we won’t make headway.”
