Sabo Market Demolition: Outrage As Three Market Women Dies Of Shock…Traders Call For Immediate Arrest Of ‘Iyaloja’
The unfortunate Demolition of shops and destroying of goods at the popular Sabo Market in Ikorodu has recorded three deaths as a result of shock from some of the Traders inside the market. The sad development has made traders in the market to call for immediate arrest and prosecution of the Chairperson [Iyaloja] of the Market,Alhaja Alison.
According to information gathered from traders inside the Market, the Chairperson connived with the developers, Local Government and Military Personnel to carry-out the dastard destruction from early hours of Thursday May 4th with millions naira of goods still inside the shops, bulldozing all structures using two Catepillars. Worst still, many of the traders were not allowed to pack their goods, while others who came late only met their goods perished along with debris of the buildings
Investigation carried out by TimelineNG discovered that, the Chairperson of the Market has been at loggerhead with traders in the Market for a while over who get the contract as developer of particular section of the Market. While some representatives of traders insisted that they have developer who can build the new structure of the particular section at a lesser price, the Chairperson was bent on making use of her own developer which unfortunately will be building at a higher cost.
This incidentally does not went down well with Madam Alison who has since then been victimizing those standing in for traders’ interest, locking up their shops and harrasing them frequently. The crisis we learnt has been taken to the Monarch of Ikorodu, Ayangburen, Oba Kabiru Shotobi several times with no headway. Some market women have also accused the Monarch of playing politics with the issue, acting as if he is on the side of the traders.
A trader in the Sabo Market who crave anonymity to talk to use exonerated Lagos State Government from the incident but blame the Chairperson of being the brain behind the destructing ” It is so sad that the Chairperson is opposite of what she is supposed to be for traders, we have lost three traders due to incident. She is always after what she will gain, what happen now is the peak and we think the government must act immediately in the interest of the lives that were lost and to prevent future occurrence”
Meanwhile, reliable sources has disclosed that the Chairperson who is presently running from pillar-to-post in a bid to avoid lyching by aggrieved traders has hired security personnel to safe-guard her house in Ikorodu even as calmness returned to the market with many traders now displaying their goods under the sunshine without shelter.
When we sort to hear the side of Ikorodu Local Government authority on the incident, no one was ready to state their own side of involvement as at the time of filing this story. We however learnt the statement released by Lagos State to absolved the government from the development has sent jitters across with everyone awaiting the aftermath.
