Sen Orji Uzor Kalu & IGBERE DEVELOPMENT….
When you talk about the fast growing development in Igbere over the years,
Chief Dr. Orji Uzo Kalu is one of the pioneers. He took it upon himself to see to the realization of it.
For those who can still remember how Ebele Market (Afia Ebele) of those days was being devastated by flood and erosion can still testify of how the road leading to Umusi Community then was almost cut off by ravaging flood and erosion. The two monsters had badly damaged the culvert built there.
In 1993 there was a fundraising activity organized by Igbere Welfare Union Lagos (IWU) to raise money to build a standard bridge to enable people and vehicles have easy passage to and fro Umusi.
The planning Committee Chaired by Chief Sally John Mekwa sent invitation to Chief Dr. Orji Uzo Kalu and made him the Chief launcher.
Due to other equally important engagements he was unable to come in person but he sent someone who represented him with a donation of #50,000
He also told Nde Igbere to think of other things to do in Igbere and promised that he will single handedly construct that bridge.
Few years later, Chief Orji Uzo Kalu fulfilled the promise by constructing the Ogele Ebele bridge. The bridge is still serving till date.
When he became the Governor of Abia State…
He was instrumental to the construction of Umusi Community Road down to Amakpo, that was the time his father was celebrating his Igbere Age Grade Traditional Retirement (Igbotomma).
Chief Dr. Orji Uzo Kalu (Ahaejiagamba) sometime ago promised Igbere that he was going to construct the Road passing Iyi Okparanu via Ozara Amankalu and joining Abriba Road. A promise he has since started to fulfill.
Recently Chief J. C. Ukoha (Otutemba) called the attention of OUK as they were chatting, to the state of that Road especially the slope leading to Iyi Opkaranu where again flood and erosion is ravaging and damaging the work already done and told him to try and complete the work as the Road is of paramount importance to Nde Amankalu in particular and Igbere in general. OUK without hesitation responded to Otutemba by saying “the Road will be completed and ready for use before the end of this year 2024”. We have no atom of doubt as to whether this will come to reality because OUK “na talk and do” person.
Let’s support OUK and his Team in their Agenda of developing the entire Abia North Federal Constituency which he is representing. OUK is a Senator like no other in the entire Abia State both present and past if not the country Nigeria. We’re super proud of him. He should count on Igbere votes in 2027 general elections with regards to wherever his political ambitions will fall.
