The Senate on Wednesday resolved to investigate the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, over alleged bribery and corruption under his watch.
This is even as Idris has been accused of impregnating a serving Woman Police Officer and secretly married her in Kaduna.
Senator Isa Misau, who disclosed this on the floor of Senate on Wednesday, said the development is against the Police Act.
According to him: “IGP impregnated a woman.
“The pregnant was four months when the Ibrahim married her secretly in Kaduna State.”
Misau, who failed to mention the Woman Police Officer’s name, accused the IGP of illegal diversion of Police budget for the purchase of luxury cars.
He said there is no accountability in the revenue generated by the Nigerian Police, adding that Idris is after him because of his revelations on the Nigeria Police.
Misau, who came in through a Point of Order, said he raised the issued of corruption and bribery as a result of his concern on what is going on in the Police.
He added that many police officers paid as high as N2.5 million to be promoted, while those that cannot pay will remain on same level for years.
In his response, the President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, said the issue raised cannot be swept under the carpet and vowed to set up Ad-hoc Committee to investigate the allegations against the Inspector General of Police.
