Senate Suspends Ali Ndume Over Saraki And Melaye’s Probe

The Senate Committee on Ethics and Privileges has called for the suspension of a former Leader of the Senate, Senator Ali Ndume, for one year.
The move was contained in a report submitted to the whole house on Wednesday by the Chairman of the Committee, Senator Sam Anyanwu.
According to the report, Ndume will be suspended for one year for failing to do due diligence before bringing up matters at plenary.
Ndume had last week raised a Point of Order notifying the house of the allegation against the President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, over the purchase of a Range Rover Jeep, which was said to have cost the Senate N298 million, with the Customs duties unpaid.
Ndume also drew the attention of the Senate to the alleged certificate forgery against Senator Dino Melaye.
At the hearing of the committee on Monday, both Saraki and Melaye were cleared.
The report of the committee was still being debated as at press time at the plenary presided over by the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu.
