Soyinka Commends PMB over Construction Of Lagos-Ibadan Rail line

Nobel laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka has said that he doesn’t care about the government responsible for the construction of the Lagos-Ibadan Standard Gauge rail line, as long as it is there.

He made this statement at the test run of the rail line in Abeokuta on Friday.

In a video shared by the Head of Digital Communications in the presidency, Tolu Ogunlesi, on his Twitter handle, Soyinka said, “One of these days, this plateau seems to be naturally donated for this kind of enterprise. One of these days, from this platform, a rocket would go to the next planet.

“But for now, we are keeping our feet on the ground, looking for opportunities for traders, commuters, etcetra, etcetra. I don’t give a damn, who put it there. It doesn’t matter whatsoever, as long as it is. We have this saying in Yoruba, K’okunrin r’ejo, k’obinrin pa, ani ki ejo sa ti ku. Meaning, if it’s a man, who sees a serpent but its a woman, who kills it, what does it matter?

“But this is not a question of killing, this is a matter of being creative. This is not a do-or-die occasion but do-and-do occasion.

“Congratulations to everyone involved in this enterprise, next time around, a rocket.”

Ogunlesi in his tweet added that Professor Soyinka’s Abeokuta house was not far from where the Abeokuta Mega Station will be.

“These used to be my hunting grounds,” he said. “I’m here to see what my old hunting grounds were appropriated for.

Professor Soyinka had earlier on Friday endorsed the presidential candidate of the Young Progressives Party, Professor Kingsley Moghalu for the forthcoming election.

Wole Soyinka is here. Turns out his famous Abeokuta house is not far from where we are; where the Abeokuta Mega Station will be. “These used to be my hunting grounds,” he said. “I’m here to see what my old hunting grounds were appropriated for.” #LagosIbadanRail
