Teachers are Vital to Nation Building, Amosun

Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has said teachers are vital to nation building. 

Speaking during the celebration of the 2017 World Teachers’ Day, held at the Arcade Ground, Governor’s office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, yesterday, the governor noted that the importance of teachers in reshaping and developing the society cannot be quantified.

Restating the commitment of his administration to the continuous welfare of teachers in the state, Amosun appreciated them for their steadfastness, despite obvious challenges confronting the profession across the nation.

The governor commended the teachers for being a key in transmitting good values and morals into the children, promising that before the end of the year, their outstanding promotions and leave bonuses will be approved.

In her welcome address, the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mrs. Modupe Mujota, noted that the occasion provided the opportunity to appreciate the invaluable contributions of teachers to national development.

She said as stakeholders, the government expects the support of teachers in the actualisation of the success of its agenda in the education sector.

In his remarks, the Ogun State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Mr. Titi Adebanjo, appreciated the governor for the sustainability of education in the state, especially through the creation of conducive atmosphere for teaching and learning as well as prompt payment of salary.

The State Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Senior Secondary School, Mr. Akeem Lasisi, while commending Amosun for approving that teachers be employed at the management level of the state Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), urged government to continue to allocate over 20 percent of its yearly budget to education.
