UNPAID SALARY: Strike Imminent As Oyo Tertiary Institutions’ Workers Issue 7-Day Ultimatum

Six tertiary institutions owned by the Oyo State government, on Friday, protested the alleged non-payment of 15-month salaries by the state government.

The schools are Emmanuel Alayande College of Education, Oyo; Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology, Igboora; The Ibarapa polytechnic, Eruwa; The Oke-Ogun Polytechnic, Saki; The Polytechnic, Ibadan; and College of Education, Lanlate.

The workers also expressed their displeasure over what they described as an attempt by the state government to ‘kill’ the schools by not adequately funding them.

Chairman of the Joint Action Council of the institutions, Adeniyi Babatunde, said the strike embarked on by the workers came after the expiration of a 14-day ultimatum issued the state government by the various workers’ unions in the schools.
